Chapter 21 - 021. A Throne Built on Lies

KEVIN POV

We were in the middle of a council meeting, and a heated argument had broken out between me and the elders. An elder stood up and said, "Kevin, you have to get a Luna, and you have to do that fast."

He said this to me as I just looked at him and scoffed.

I think all of them had planned this together. "Why do they always have to put me in charge of getting a Luna? I don't want one right now, and why can't they understand that? I must use this Luna issue to get what I want," I thought to myself as I smiled inwardly.

All eyes were on me as they waited for my reply, eager to hear my opinion.

"I have already told you all, I will not get a Luna. At least not now. I don't want one. The only thing that will make me get a Luna is if you make me the Lycan Alpha. You have to announce me as the one and only true Lycan Alpha. After all, I was the rightful heir to the throne, and if not for my father's decision, I would have been Alpha from the very beginning instead of my brother Kael.

And now that we all know he is dead and is nowhere to be found, he has probably joined his ancestors. You have to crown me the Lycan Alpha. That is the only thing that will make me take a Luna. If you do not do that, then I am never getting a Luna. I will just remain Alpha and rule solely, without a Luna beside me."

I said this to them as they all stared at each other with expressions of deep disappointment.

I knew they would react that way. They would eventually agree to my request, because according to our laws in this pack, an Alpha cannot be without a Luna, and I knew they would find every way possible to ensure I had one. But if they did not fulfill my wish, I would not find any Luna or marry anybody.

I thought to myself as I waited for their reply.

But none of them said anything. They just kept whispering to each other. I allowed it, assuming they were deliberating on whether to accept my request or not.

Then all of a sudden, one of the elders spoke up.

"It is not that simple. We do not want to make you the Lycan Alpha, but beyond that, it is not your right. You are not the one who is supposed to be the Lycan Alpha."

"The only true Lycan Alpha is Kael, and as long as he is alive, we cannot crown you. Everybody knows Kael as the Lycan Alpha, and if not for the fact that he has been missing for the past year, you would not have assumed this position.

"Your father actually made a wise decision. It is not your father's fault or your brother's fault that Kael was crowned Alpha.

"It was because your father saw the nature of a dangerous and self-serving person in you. He had seen that you were not fit enough to be the Alpha of this pack. Only Kael was fit enough.

"Kael fulfilled every responsibility he was supposed to fulfill to prove that he was capable of ruling this pack.

"And you? You did nothing of value. You did not win the hearts of the people in this pack. That was why your father made that difficult decision and made your brother Kael the Alpha. Only he can remain the rightful Alpha.

And as long as Kael is still alive, you can never become the Lycan Alpha, regardless of whether you refuse to take a Luna. We cannot grant you that."

"None of you here is becoming Lycan Alpha in his place," another elder added as I looked at him, barely able to contain my fury.

What the hell was he saying? I felt the urge to cross the room and strangle him until he stopped breathing.

But I had to remain calm. I had to remain calm in the presence of all of them so they would not criticize me further.

I laughed sarcastically as I looked across the room at all of them.

"What do you mean I don't have the potential? What do you mean I do not have the confidence to become Alpha?"

"Have you even seen my potential? Have you seen what I am capable of? No. All of you simply liked Kael more than you liked me. That was why you made him Alpha."

"And that was never supposed to be. This throne was rightfully mine. I am the rightful heir. I am the one who is supposed to be the Lycan Alpha, not Kael. And can't you see that Kael is already dead?"

"Why do all of you still believe he is alive after a year of being missing? Do you think he would survive that long? Never. Anyone who goes missing for that long cannot still be alive."

I said this out loud to them as they just looked at me, shaking their heads with disappointment.

I did not care what any of them thought. All I cared about was them making me the Lycan Alpha. Only that would give me the full power I deserved.

I was still deep in my thoughts when one of the guards entered the room. I had been hearing a great deal of noise outside, but I had paid it no mind.

The elders had apparently been hearing it too, but they were equally determined to stay focused on the meeting.

They did not want to get distracted by the noise outside, and neither did I. I needed to finish this discussion and convince them to make me the Lycan Alpha.

"There is nothing any of them can do to stop it," I thought to myself as the guard came to whisper in my ear.

"Alpha, there are many pack members outside and they are very angry. They are rioting, demanding the release of Kael," he said to me.
