'Putting on an act for a short while is one thing, but keeping it up all the time means I'd have to stay on high alert constantly. I can't even imagine how exhausting that would be.'
At this thought, he lowered his head. 'Looks like I'll have to talk as little as possible from now on. The more you say, the more you screw up.'
'But when it's just the two of us in the car, Stella Sterling and me, I won't have to be so on edge.'
Thinking of this, he let out a long sigh of relief.
'Compared to my own life, being a little more careful is a small price to pay.'
Stella Sterling watched him but didn't say anything more.
Having spent the last few days with him, she'd come to realize that Andrew Shaw was the kind of person who needed a sharp reminder every now and then.
If she let her guard down around him, he'd get cocky enough to think he could walk on air.
He also had a tendency to get careless.
'What I just said was partly to scare him, but it was also true.'
