Renee Kane kicked open the study door. There were no ambushes or traps inside, just as she remembered.
'But the study is filled with things. Where would I even begin to look for an old diary?'
Besides, Theo Sherman had been using this study in recent years. If he'd found my childhood diary, he probably would've just thrown it out like trash. Why would he have kept it safe?'
'So, Miranda Kane must have put the diary somewhere it would be safe, but also wouldn't be easily found...'
After a moment's thought, Renee Kane's gaze fell upon an old bookcase that looked somewhat out of place with the rest of the study's decor.
Her grandfather had built that cabinet for her mother himself. That's why, even though its style was long outdated and the paint was peeling, it still remained in the study.
There was even a small, locked box inside it, used for storing Miranda Kane's childhood keepsakes.
