Josie Quinn and Jude Sheffield crouched beneath the dusty windowsill of a ground-floor apartment, their eyes locked on the wandering figure in the street below.
It was a Wind-type zombie that had just finished evolving.
Its movements were nowhere near as swift or fluid as the twice-evolved one they had encountered before. Its limb joints even moved with a stiff, jerky motion. The Wind Blade it conjured was crooked and distorted, shaving off a corner of a nearby abandoned mailbox before vanishing without a trace.
"Josie," Jude Sheffield's voice was extremely low, filled with an unprecedented focus and eagerness. "This one... it looks like it just evolved. Its movements are clumsy. I want to... try taking it on by myself."
Josie turned to look at him in surprise.
The lines of the young man's profile were taut, but his eyes were startlingly bright, like a blade quenched in fire.
