June's pov
We all turned at the same time and my blood went cold.
Atleast two dozens of spiked, fire-breathing worms were closing in towards us.
My stomach dropped. It had taken everything we had just to escape one of them, and now there were more. I didn't know how much longer I could keep moving.
"Ferah…" I said, my voice low, tight. "We can't fight that."
"We have to jump," Ferah said, her voice sharp and steady.
"Into the sewer?" Fifi snapped, glancing at the dark drop ahead. "Are you insane, Sister? We don't even know what's down there!"
Ferah didn't even argue. She just pointed behind us.
The worms were almost on us now, their quills scraping against the stone.
We moved to the edge together, the drop below nothing but darkness.
Ferah's voice cut through everything. "On three. One… two… three."
And then we jumped.
