Elara's pov
I sat on the edge of my bed, buried my face in my palms, and groaned. I actually thumped my forehead with the heel of my hand.
"Why would I say that?" I muttered into my palms. "Why would I actually say that out loud?"
You're my light in this world.
The words sounded far worse in the morning than it had last night.
I had been so caught up in the chocolate, the dancing, and the rare feeling of safety that I'd said the most foolish thing ever.
And he had crushed it..
Was he thinking I meant it some other way? I knew he had a girlfriend and here I was, acting like a star-crossed teenager.
The training session wasn't until the afternoon, so I called for Mai and Luke.
Over the last sixty days, we had developed a strange, silent tradition. Despite the dining table, I preferred sitting on the floor. It felt more grounded. Eventually, Mai had joined me and after that, Luke had stopped pretending to be too formal for it and joined us too.
