Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Meeting an Acquaintance Again

The dessert was cloyingly sweet the moment she took a bite. Olivia Wynne looked at the rest of it on her plate, a little disappointed.

'These desserts look so beautiful, but how can they taste so awful? The main courses at this restaurant were pretty good, yet the dessert ended up like this. Don't tell me the chef only knows how to cook savory dishes and not make desserts?'

Just as Olivia was lost in thought, she suddenly heard a loud… CRASH!

The sound was so loud it snapped Olivia out of her thoughts. She looked toward the door of their private room.

'I wonder what happened to cause such a racket.'

As Olivia was wondering, she heard another sound—a THUD.

This time, it wasn't just a sound; she could also see what was happening outside.

The door to their private room had been thrown open.

A woman in a red, off-the-shoulder gown had stumbled and fallen right at the entrance to their room. Propping herself up on her hands, she twisted around to face the person who had kicked her. "Please, spare me this time! I'll never make a mistake like this again."

The moment the woman spoke, Olivia Wynne recognized her voice. It was one of the women from the conversation she had overheard in the restroom.

Recalling what she'd heard in the restroom, Olivia watched the woman on the floor with a hint of schadenfreude in her eyes.

'This woman was trying to set someone up. It looks like she got caught, and now she's paying the price.'

'She's a devious person to begin with. Getting her comeuppance now isn't something worth pitying.'

Olivia was watching the woman outside with great interest when a familiar figure came into view.

Liam Lanier was crouched down, his sharp gaze fixed on the woman on the floor. "What, you're hoping for a next time?"

The woman on the floor seemed terrified of Liam and his men. Hearing his words, she immediately shook her head. "No, I'll never do it again! Please, let me go."

Liam Lanier snorted softly. He reached out, grabbed the woman's wrist, and squeezed. Tighter, and tighter still.

Only when the woman's face was contorted in pain did Liam finally release her.

"There are some things you can do, and some things you can't. I hope you understand that lesson by the time you get out."

With that, Liam stood up. He paid no mind to the woman's deathly pale face as he spoke directly to the two bodyguards in black suits behind him. "Take her away."

The woman was led away, leaving only the chaotic murmur of conversation outside the room.

Seeing that the show was over, Olivia Wynne pouted slightly and lowered her head to sip her tea.

After his men had taken the woman away, Liam Lanier straightened up, brushed off his clothes, and then looked up toward Olivia Wynne's private room.

"My apologies for the distur..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Liam's expression froze.

When he had first turned around, Olivia Wynne had been looking down at her tea, so he hadn't seen her face. But now she had looked up, and Liam Lanier recognized her in an instant.

'This was the woman... the one his sir could touch without an allergic reaction.'

He had been about to leave immediately, but the words Mrs. Fairchild had spoken to him over the past few days flashed through his mind. Liam Lanier thought for a moment and decided not to leave. Instead, he said to Olivia Wynne, "My apologies for the disturbance."

After saying this, Liam continued, "We've met before. Do you remember?"

In truth, Olivia Wynne had recognized Liam Lanier the moment she looked up, but she hadn't greeted him first since they weren't familiar with each other. Now that he had initiated the conversation, Olivia smiled and said, "Of course I remember. And I have you to thank for your help last time."
