"What?" Jace stood up and walked over to Phoebe. Reaching out to touch her forehead, he asked, "What's wrong? Are you still not feeling well?"
But before his hand could touch her forehead, Phoebe slapped it away with a sharp SMACK.
Jace's expression darkened at the blow.
He strode forward, grabbing Phoebe's hands and pinning them behind her back. In a single motion, he spun her around and pressed her down onto the table. "What are you throwing a fit about? Feeling all better now, are we? Ready to cause more trouble?"
Pinned by Jace, Phoebe had no way to fight back.
She glared at Jace, frantic and furious, her eyes slowly welling with tears.
Seeing her like this, Jace narrowed his eyes. His voice was ice-cold. "Who told you something? Or did you overhear something you shouldn't have? Phoebe, is it so hard to just be a good girl, stay home, and listen to me?"
With reddened eyes, Phoebe glared at Jace in silence.
'Was there something else I shouldn't have heard?'
