Howie didn't know why Phoebe had suddenly become so nervous. He glanced at his watch, coughed, and said, "Boss, to be honest, you were out for quite a while. It's already midnight."
"It's over! I'm so dead!" Phoebe was in such a panic she forgot the back of her head was still throbbing. She smacked her forehead and shot to her feet. "Quick, take me home! Now!"
"Boss, what's wrong? What is it? Did something terrible happen?" When Chad saw how anxious Phoebe was, he started to panic too. "Boss, is something wrong at home? Do you need help? Should I rally the guys right now…?"
"No." Seeing Chad's frantic expression, Phoebe sat back down.
'It's this late already. It's probably useless to go back now.'
'She had just set some ground rules with Jace Lennox, and not even three days had passed before she broke their agreement.'
The thought of Jace Lennox's unpredictable moods, of the icy aura he exuded when angry, made Phoebe shiver. "Howie, where's my phone?"
