Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: He Actually Applied Ointment for Her Himself

Phoebe Faulkner pouted and scooted over, leaving only a fist's distance between her and Jace Lennox.

Once Phoebe Faulkner had settled, Jace Lennox tossed the newly bought medicine into her lap. "Apply it yourself."

'Apply it myself?'

'Here?'

Phoebe Faulkner glanced at the ointment in her lap, then stole a peek at Jace Lennox. Seeing his grim expression, she knew he wasn't joking. She unwrapped the ointment and began dabbing it on her slapped cheek.

Jace Lennox had gone back to ignoring Phoebe Faulkner, until he saw her in the rearview mirror. She was fumbling about, so clumsy she didn't even seem to know where her own face was swollen. Unable to bear it any longer, he snatched the ointment from her hand, turned her by the shoulders to face him, and started applying the medicine himself.

Phoebe Faulkner's mouth had formed an "O" from the moment the ointment was snatched away. Even after Jace Lennox finished applying it, her mouth remained open. Staring at the long eyelashes of the man before her, she was lost in a daze for a long time.

'This man… why did he approach me? Was it really for the Faulkner Family's Treasure Map? Or was it because he knew Faulkner?'

Phoebe Faulkner felt the cool sensation on her cheek. Looking at the man before her, she saw his features soften in intense concentration and couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Lennox, do you really not know Faulkner? Faulkner…"

At those words, Jace Lennox's hand froze. "Stop the car!"

The car came to a stop. Phoebe Faulkner watched Jace Lennox turn toward her. "Get out!"

Phoebe Faulkner…

Phoebe Faulkner was kicked out of the car. She stood on the road, watching it drive away. 'That man definitely knows Faulkner. Otherwise, why does his gaze always turn so cold, and why does he always tell me to get lost whenever I bring him up?'

Phoebe Faulkner was left stranded. She would have to hail a cab, but as luck would have it, she had been dropped off on a viaduct where no taxi would risk stopping for a passenger. To make matters worse, she had left her phone in Jace Lennox's car.

She walked along the viaduct, planning to get off it before hailing a cab. But after walking for just over ten minutes, a Ferrari pulled up in front of her. "Phoebe, is that really you? What happened? What are you doing on a viaduct all by yourself?"

Hearing the voice, Phoebe Faulkner turned toward the Ferrari. In the driver's seat was a young woman with a chic, short haircut, wearing sunglasses and a tight, black leather outfit.

"Kitty, you must be an angel sent from heaven to save me!"

Seeing who it was, Phoebe Faulkner hopped into the car without another word. She nudged Kitty's arm, urging, "Kitty, quick, drive! You can't park on the viaduct, unless you want to get a ticket and have points deducted from your license."

"Pedestrians aren't allowed on the viaduct either, you know. How long were you walking? You're lucky the cops didn't nab you." Kitty hit the gas and drove Phoebe off the viaduct.

Phoebe Faulkner sighed. She didn't want to ruin Kitty's mood with her problems.

"By the way, Phoebe, didn't you say you were going to give that man his money today? I just called you, why didn't you pick up? How did it go? Did you cut ties with him?" Kitty asked.

"Kitty, I think that man might know something about Faulkner."

When Kitty heard this, she slammed on the brakes. "You mean Faulkner?"
