Just then, a waiter happened to pass by. Shalma Hughes casually beckoned him over, grabbing a glass of wine for King, one for Sawyer, and one for herself.
"Give it a try," she said. "Are you accustomed to drinking this kind of wine?"
King and Sawyer held up their goblets, inspected the liquid inside, and downed it in one gulp.
The alcohol burned their throats. They decided they were still far more accustomed to cheap sorghum liquor.
Seeing their reactions, Shalma Hughes didn't even need to ask to know how they felt. They definitely weren't used to it.
The entire banquet hall quieted down as spotlights illuminated the stage. Shalma Hughes turned her head and watched Marcus Hughes walk up the steps. It seemed Marcus Hughes had no intention of waiting any longer.
