Silas Fairchild stared at her, his gaze deep and unreadable. "Why didn't you bring Claire back with you?"
"I was going to, but she suddenly felt unwell right before we left..."
Silas Fairchild interrupted her. "Unwell, or did you just not want to bring her at all?"
Now that he'd put it so bluntly, Seraphina Quinn dropped the pretense.
She chuckled. "Of course I didn't want to. After all, if I bring her onto Fairchild territory, getting her back won't be so easy."
Silas Fairchild sneered, "Seraphina Quinn, if the Fairchild Family really wanted to make a move on Claire, I could find her and drag her back to Kingsland even if you hid her away. So, stop playing these petty games. The old man is really on his last legs. He's only seen her twice since she was born. His dying wish is to see her one more time. Are you going to deny him that?"
