Stella Sterling pressed, "What dinner? What kind of dinner?"
"A department dinner. Everyone's going," Joy Miller said. "You've been here for so long but never made it to a team-building event. Now you're leaving, so tonight's dinner will be a perfect farewell for you. Think of it as a graduation party from OmniConnect."
Stella Sterling made a last-ditch effort. "Oh, no, that's too much trouble for everyone. Besides, my final departure date isn't even set yet..."
"We don't think it's any trouble, so what are you worried about? It's settled, then."
Stella Sterling: "No, but I..."
Before she could finish, Roman Rhodes's second message arrived.
Roman: [I'm free.]
Stella Sterling: "..." 'I'm screwed.'
It all happened so suddenly. Stella Sterling never expected events to take a turn so completely contrary to her own intentions.
'Now what?'
The department dinner had been designated as her farewell party, which meant she had to go.
