Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Sublime Mastery

A few minutes later, two Jeeps, six buses, and a large military truck pulled up to the small convenience store at the gas station.

The vehicles stopped in front of the convenience store. About a hundred soldiers carrying automatic rifles were the first to jump down from the large military truck.

They aimed at the horde of over a hundred zombies near the panel van and unleashed a round of silent, intense gunfire.

In less than three minutes, all of the hundred-plus zombies were on the ground, taken down by headshots.

This revealed a man and a woman on the roof of the small panel van, their deathly pale faces turned toward the crowd.

"AH, AHHHHH!" Staring at the zombies before her—their skulls suddenly bursting, blood flowing everywhere—Shi Ailing let out a piercing shriek.

Unable to take it any longer, Zhang Yang turned, swung his arm, and slapped the woman across the face. "Stop screaming! Are you still screaming?!"

Each bus was crammed with at least fifty or sixty people. At a time like this, no one cared about vehicle capacity limits. The orders from above were simply to take as many people as they could and get them to a safe zone.

At that moment, everyone on the buses was crowded by the windows, watching the man and woman on the panel van point and shout insults at each other.

A baby-faced young man jumped down from one of the Jeeps and waved impatiently toward the small van. "Hey! Hey, you two. Sir? Ma'am? Stop making noise, or you'll attract another horde. Our ammo is extremely limited."

"Stop screaming!" Zhang Yang gave Shi Ailing a hard tug, then scrambled to slide down from the roof of the van.

After Shi Ailing slid to the ground, she stepped right on a pile of zombie corpses, causing her to retch uncontrollably.

"Everyone on the buses, listen up. Each family can send one representative to get off and grab supplies from the convenience store. We regroup in twenty minutes. Do not be late, because the buses will not wait for stragglers," Baby Face announced, keeping his voice low but his expression serious.

After that, the doors of the six buses opened, and the representatives—almost all of them men—sprinted toward the convenience store entrance.

"Brother, Brother, was that alright?" Baby Face leaned toward the Jeep's window, blinking his puppy-dog eyes in a fawning display.

A slender, well-proportioned hand reached out from inside the vehicle and gently patted his head. "Go see what's going on with those two bodies over there."

"You got it." Baby Face turned, waved a hand, and led two rifle-wielding soldiers to the side of the convenience store, where he squatted down to examine two zombie corpses.

Soon, Baby Face came scurrying back to his brother's side. "Brother, Brother, what a coincidence! Those two zombies, they were killed by a Heavenly Blade! The wound is just this thin."

"Man, it was so fast, ruthless, and precise. Tsk, tsk. Brother, I am one hundred percent certain it was that young lady we met before! After all, you're the one who gave her the Heavenly Blade. In this whole world, nothing but the Heavenly Blade could leave a wound so sublimely, exquisitely beautiful."

"You sure can run your mouth," a handsome face commented, leaning out from the adjacent Jeep.

The man adjusted the gold-rimmed glasses on his face and rolled his eyes in annoyance. "The boss sent you over because he already sensed it. Do you ever get tired of hearing yourself talk?"

"Are *you* tired? Is your whole family tired?" Baby Face glared at the man with the gold-rimmed glasses. "I'm talking to my brother. Stay out of it, you damn two-faced weirdo."

"Boss! Someone opened the fill port in the back." A brawny, middle-aged man strode over, pointing toward the rear of the gas station.

"Mm. Get as much as you can. It's a long way to the safe zone."

"Also," the man added after a pause, "send someone inside to watch them."
