While Laura Thorne and Mason Crawford were discussing the case, another car suddenly pulled through the police station gates.
The car looked ordinary enough, but the string of numbers on its white police license plate was rather eye-catching.
Even Mason Crawford glanced over.
After the car stopped, a driver quickly stepped forward to open the door.
The first to get out was a man of about fifty, dressed in a police uniform. He had a stern, square face, and the silver olive branches and three stars on his epaulets immediately drew the attention of everyone in the courtyard.
Only then did another person step out of the car.
Mason Crawford's gaze darkened slightly, and he quickly looked away.
It was Brandon Crawford.
Brandon Crawford stood by the car and exchanged a few words with Gordon Rhodes, who had gotten out first. Then he watched as Gordon Rhodes accepted the salutes from officers of all ranks and walked into the office building.
