The 2nd Realm ended in a vertical wall of white marble that pierced the very roof of the sky. This was the Gate of Tears, the final checkpoint before the 3rd Realm—The Sea of Clouds.
Standing before the gate was a figure thirty feet tall, draped in robes made of literal sunlight. He held a spear that hummed with the frequency of a dying star.
[TARGET: THE GATE-KEEPER (DEITY)]
[RANK: 6 - EARLY STAGE (CHAMPION-TIER)]
[STATUS: ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY]
"Kane," the Deity spoke, his voice vibrating in the squad's very DNA. "The High-Archon has watched your descent into madness. You are a cancer on the Spire. Step forward and be cauterized."
"Sarge, his Rank... it's a full Tier above us," Sully whispered, her Void-Sight bleeding from the sheer brightness of the Deity's aura. "We can't win a fair fight."
"I'm done with fair," Kane said.
He stepped forward. His Calamity-Born form was no longer just armor; it was a localized storm of black ash and violet lightning. Every step he took left a footprint of rotting stone. The moss withered, the air soured, and the very laws of gravity began to warp around him.
"You speak of cauterization?" Kane's voice was a chorus of a thousand screaming souls. "I am the one who feeds on the sun."
The Great Corruption
The Deity lunged, his star-spear thrusting forward with a speed that bypassed the concept of time.
Kane didn't block. He opened his arms and let the spear pierce his chest.
"Sarge!" Vance roared, stepping forward to intervene, but Doc held him back.
"Look at the wound," Doc whispered, her emerald eyes wide.
The spear hadn't drawn blood. Where the star-light touched Kane's Midnight Plate, it turned black. A viscous, tar-like corruption began to climb up the shaft of the spear, moving toward the Deity's hands.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: CALAMITY-INFUSION]
[FEEDING ON: CELESTIAL RADIANCE]
"What... what is this?!" The Deity tried to pull the spear back, but it was fused to Kane's ribs. "My essence! It's being inverted!"
"The System built this gate to keep the 'Prey' down," Kane hissed, his hands gripping the spear's shaft. "But I'm not Prey. I'm the Update."
Kane's violet lightning surged through the spear and into the Gate of Tears. The white marble began to crack, black veins of rot spreading across the ancient stone like a virus. The "Tears" of the gate—actual waterfalls of pure mana—turned to boiling, black bile.
[SYSTEM ALERT: REALM STABILITY CRITICAL]
[GATE OF TEARS: 45% INFECTED]
The Deity screamed as his golden skin began to flake away like burnt paper. He wasn't just losing a fight; he was being unmade.
"The 3rd Realm... will never... accept a monster like you!" the Deity gasped, his form flickering as he lost his Rank-6 status.
"I don't need their acceptance," Kane growled. He ripped the spear out of his chest—now a jagged rod of obsidian—and jammed it into the center of the Gate. "I only need their Essence."
[GATE DEFILED]
[REALM BREAKTHROUGH ACHIEVED]
[RANK 5 (EARLY) \rightarrow RANK 5 (MIDDLE STAGE)]
The Gate of Tears didn't open. It collapsed into a swirling vortex of black glass.
The pressure change was instantaneous. The squad was sucked into the vacuum, pulled upward through the rotting fabric of the 2nd Realm and into the blinding, golden expanse of the 3rd Realm.
[LOCATION: THE SEA OF CLOUDS (GOD-DOMAIN)]
[ENVIRONMENT: HIGH-DENSITY AETHER]
[THREAT LEVEL: CALAMITY]
Kane landed on a solid cloud-bank, his boots sinking into the golden mist. Behind him, Vance, Doc, and Sully tumbled out of the rift, gasping for air that felt like liquid gold.
Kane stood tall. His Calamity-Born aura had stabilized, his skin now a permanent, obsidian-grey. He looked out over the 3rd Realm—a world of floating islands, golden temples, and beings that moved like streaks of lightning.
"Welcome to the high-rent district, Alpha-6," Kane said, his silver eyes locking onto a massive palace floating in the distance. "Let's see if the 'Gods' are as tasty as their gatekeepers."
