She was still the same, but a lot different.
The scent was there, but it was fainter now, and that shimmer beneath her skin…
"How are you feeling?" I asked quietly.
She flinched at my voice, spinning around as if she had forgotten I was there. For a moment, she just looked at me.
"I..." She shook her head. "I'm sorry. My mind keeps drifting."
"It's alright." I kept my voice gentle.
She had been through a lot.
She let out a breath, and seemed a bit more relaxed. I watched the way her gaze softened as she looked at me, and something warm unfurled in my chest.
"Sorry, I wasn't around earlier," I quickly added. "I was aiding with the search for Paloma, and I wasn't around to... My apologies for my mother's behaviour."
"Oh…" She nodded slowly, her attention drifting for a moment before returning to me.
