Chapter 3 - The Shape of Etheria**

**Infinite Slaughter System**

**Chapter 3: The Shape of Etheria**

Quincy Lennox sat cross-legged on the thin mat in his corner room of the outer disciple dormitory. The wooden building creaked occasionally as night settled over the Azure Peak Sect. He had barred the door and placed a simple chair against it for extra security. The two additional kills earlier had brought his Slaughter Points to 225, but he chose not to spend them yet. Instead, he focused on gathering reliable information about the larger world.

The memories of the original Quincy offered only basic knowledge of the sect and its immediate surroundings. Quincy needed more. He directed a clear question to the system.

"Provide a detailed overview of the world geography and major powers."

The mechanical voice responded without delay, delivering facts in a structured sequence.

[This planet is called Etheria. It consists of one primary supercontinent known as the Central Lands, surrounded by vast oceans that contain scattered island chains and smaller continents. The Central Lands span millions of square kilometers and are divided into four main regions by natural barriers.]

The system projected a simple mental map for clarity. Quincy visualized it as he listened.

To the east lay the **Eastern Verdant Region**, a fertile area with rolling hills, dense spirit forests, and numerous spirit veins. It supported many mid-tier sects and trading cities. The Azure Peak Sect sat near the western edge of this region, in a hilly zone rich in basic spirit herbs but lacking high-grade resources.

To the south stretched the **Southern Flame Deserts**, a hot and arid expanse broken by oasis cities and underground spirit mines. Powerful clans and fire-attribute sects dominated there, often engaged in resource wars.

To the west rose the **Western Iron Peaks**, a rugged mountain range filled with metal-rich veins, ancient ruins, and dangerous beast territories. Mining sects and body-refining cultivators thrived in this harsh environment.

To the north extended the **Northern Frost Tundras**, a cold land of glaciers and eternal snow where ice and sword sects competed for limited arable land and ancient inheritances.

These four regions formed the core inhabited areas of the Central Lands. Beyond them, across the Eastern Ocean, lay the **Astral Isles**, a chain of floating and fixed islands rumored to hold advanced technological remnants and rare void-attributed treasures. Far to the west, past the Iron Peaks and a wide sea, existed the **Shadow Dominion**, a darker continent where demonic and ghost cultivators held sway. Few travelers returned from there with their sanity intact.

Massive natural barriers separated the regions: the Dragon Spine Mountains ran north to south through the center, their peaks so high that only Core Formation cultivators could cross them easily. The Great Azure River flowed from the northern tundras through the Eastern Verdant Region and emptied into the southern deserts, serving as a major trade route. Forbidden zones dotted the map, including the **Abyssal Rift** in the west, a deep chasm that released periodic demonic beasts, and the **Eternal Storm Sea** to the east, where violent Qi storms destroyed most ships.

The system continued with political and power structures.

[Human cultivators form the dominant civilization, organized primarily into sects, clans, and empires. Sects focus on shared cultivation methods and mutual protection. Clans emphasize bloodline inheritance. Empires control large territories through military force and tribute from subordinate sects.]

The Azure Peak Sect ranked as a small third-rate sect in the Eastern Verdant Region. It controlled a territory roughly two hundred kilometers across, including three spirit stone mines and several herb gardens. Its total disciples numbered around five thousand, with fewer than fifty reaching Core Formation. The sect leader, a late Nascent Soul expert named Valeria Kane, rarely intervened in outer affairs. She focused on maintaining the sect's defensive arrays and searching for higher opportunities.

Stronger powers existed nearby. The **Silver Moon Pavilion**, a second-rate sect two hundred kilometers east, boasted several Nascent Soul elders and specialized in illusion and sword techniques. It frequently absorbed talented disciples from weaker sects like Azure Peak. Further east stood the **Heavenly Vanguard Empire**, a vast human empire that spanned much of the Eastern Verdant Region and parts of the Southern Flame Deserts. Its emperor reportedly stood at the peak of Nascent Soul, supported by royal clans and subordinate sects.

Beyond the Central Lands, rumors spoke of higher planes accessible only to those who broke through to the **Soul Transformation Realm** and above. These included the **Immortal Ascension Domain**, where true immortals resided, and the **Divine Realm**, home to god-like beings. Reaching those levels required not only personal power but also rare ascension treasures and surviving heavenly tribulations.

Quincy absorbed the information steadily. The scale was vast. A single declining sect like Azure Peak was insignificant on the world map. To survive and grow, he would need to expand his reach beyond these outer grounds. Elder Harlan's personal ambitions fit neatly into this larger picture. Harlan sought to elevate his family's status within the sect so they could negotiate better terms with the Silver Moon Pavilion or gain favor from imperial envoys. Controlling more resources, such as the spirit herb cache the original Quincy had discovered, helped him build alliances and suppress rivals.

Quincy opened his eyes and checked his status once more.

[Current cultivation: Qi Condensation 2nd layer.]

[SP Balance: 225.]

[No immediate threats detected in the dormitory.]

He decided to use part of his points for practical improvement. A low-grade spirit sword would increase his combat effectiveness, and the Basic Movement Technique would help him escape or pursue enemies.

"Exchange for the Low-grade Spirit Sword and the Basic Qinggong Movement Technique."

Two items appeared before him: a slender sword with a faint blue sheen and a thin jade slip containing the movement technique. He bound the sword to himself with a drop of blood, feeling it connect to his Qi. Then he pressed the jade slip to his forehead and absorbed the knowledge. New footwork patterns and Qi circulation methods filled his mind.

[Exchange complete.]

[SP Balance: 225 - 150 - 80 = -5. Adjusted to 0 after minor system fee.]

[New abilities integrated.]

Quincy tested the movement technique by stepping lightly across the small room. His body felt noticeably lighter and faster. A single step covered twice the previous distance with minimal effort. The spirit sword hummed softly when he channeled Qi into it, sharpening its edge.

Satisfied with the upgrades, he sat down again and began circulating Qi according to the new method. The night passed quietly. By morning, he had consolidated his second layer foundation and felt ready for the next steps.

When the dormitory bell rang to signal breakfast, Quincy stepped outside. Outer disciples moved about their daily tasks—fetching water, cleaning training grounds, or heading to basic lectures. No one paid him special attention yet. The bodies from the previous night remained undiscovered.

He joined the line for spirit rice porridge and listened to the conversations around him. Several disciples whispered about recent border tensions with a neighboring minor sect called the Crimson Blade Alliance. That group had been raiding Azure Peak's outer herb fields. Elder Harlan had reportedly increased patrols, using the excuse to assign dangerous missions to disliked disciples.

Quincy finished his meal quickly and headed toward the outer mission hall. A large wooden board displayed available tasks. Most involved gathering herbs, hunting low-level beasts, or guarding warehouses. One task caught his eye: escorting a supply caravan to a nearby town, with a reward of fifty spirit stones and possible contribution points.

He accepted the mission. It would take him outside the sect grounds and provide opportunities to encounter threats. More threats meant more Slaughter Points.

As he prepared to leave, a familiar face appeared at the mission hall entrance. One of Elder Harlan's loyal inner disciples, a stocky man named Derek Voss at the 6th layer of Qi Condensation, scanned the crowd. His eyes landed on Quincy and widened in surprise.

"You… you're supposed to be dead," Derek muttered under his breath.

Quincy met his gaze calmly. He did not respond. Instead, he turned and walked toward the sect gate, sword at his side. Derek would surely report back to Elder Harlan soon. The elder's next move would come faster than expected.

Outside the sect walls, the road wound through forested hills toward the trade town of Riverbend, twenty kilometers away. Quincy moved at a steady pace using his new Qinggong steps. The air carried the scent of pine and distant spirit flowers. This small journey represented his first step beyond the immediate confines of the sect.

In his mind, the larger map of Etheria remained clear. Four regions, countless sects, empires, and forbidden zones. Power flowed from the strong to the weak, and resources decided who rose. The Infinite Slaughter System offered a direct path through that system: kill, earn points, exchange for strength, repeat.

Quincy intended to follow that path without deviation. Elder Harlan and the Azure Peak Sect were merely the beginning. The Central Lands, and eventually the higher planes, awaited.

He increased his speed slightly as the road opened before him. The caravan waited ahead, and with it, unknown dangers.
