My mother, beautiful and strong, finally broke. Her eyes, filled with fear, confirmed everything. "There are things, Percy… ancient things." She packed us for Montauk Beach, a place of peace, but I knew, with the certainty of a child touched by the impossible, that peace was no longer an option for me.
