Chapter 40 - A Tree's Roots

Light pierced through the cracks of a cave that was strewn with drawings of a history completely unknown to Isaac. A loud thud could be heard as Isaac fell backwards at the shift of the ground.

The ground of the now destroyed windbless camp was made of a soft dirt mix, clearly to act as a sign of comfort to the wanderers of the rooters, but the ground here was compact and made of stone.

The light kept glaring into Isaac's eyes, which made his eyes struggle to see beyond faint outlines of people. It took a handful of minutes before Isaac was able to partly see, but even that was a struggle to the the colours around him being drastically different to before.

The stone of the cave that surrounded him was a light green, but had no moss covering the walls, and his clothes were a dark blue, the same as his mana. If it weren't for Tiy and Stug, also wearing dark blue clothes, then he would have assumed that his mana dyed his clothes.

Isaac stood up and brushed some dirt off himself. As the group began to walk out of the cave, it began to branch out into a forked path, one side was generally populated with men with makeshift picks for mining, while the other path led outside, where the colours were even more twisted.

The sky was green, just like what Isaac saw when he was shoved here by Anix. The clouds were a bright yellow like the sun on Earth, and the grass was a pure white, like it was covered with a layer of snow, if it wasn't for the late spring warmth, then Isaac would have thought that it was winter.

As the three of them walked out of the cave, a group of five men walked over to the group of wanderers. As they approached, Isaac noticed that the whole group had equipment that openly bore the flame Symbol that was on the 'liar's truth' which Isaac took from Tiy's father.

The men stop walking and glance over the group before their eyes land on Isaac, at which point they point their weapons at him.

One of the men, who seems to be the leader of this group, shouts.

"Who is the foreigner, and why have you brought him here?"

Tiy steps forward, and whispers something into the man's ear, and seems to stuff something into a pocket on the inside of his leather armour. The men lower their weapons and begin to lead the three of them out of a small forest and into a large village.

Most of the buildings are made out of interlocking logs, but some of them are made of stone, and seem to use a clay like substitute for concrete. As they walk through the town, Isaac takes in all the colours that have changed. It's almost like he has gone colour blind, but after looking at his system, his doesn't have anything of the sort.

After around fifteen minutes of walking, they arrive at a temple made of stone and wood, and outside it is a clear flame that makes a heat mirage around it, which Isaac seems to realise is the flame that the rooters worship.

Back when he used it, and when it was used against him, the flame was a reddish orange, but under the colour change, it seems to have lost all its colour. As the men walk up to it, they bow and offer a prayer that Stug joins in with, as Tiy and Isaac don't take part in.

When the prayer is done, the doors to the temple open, as two women walk out and take the weapons of everyone present, which is mainly the five guides. After the women take the weapons, they guide everyone inside.

The women walk off into a separate room from everyone else. The guides take them deeper into the temple, and into an open prayer room, where five masked men sat in a row, high above the altar.

As Isaac gazes at them, he feels a pressure like when he meets Anix, but it's at a level that feels like having a drop of water poured on you, and Anix feels like all water is pushing you down into the darkness.

The guides kneel before the masked men and speak.

"My great Elders, I have brought The Dame and Exo to you, as well as someone they brought with them."

The Elder sat in the middle of the row, waved his hand, and the men became bathed in flame, and then walked out. The Elders then split their gaze among the remaining three people.

The First Elder to speak was also the one in the middle.

"Ahhh, if it isn't the lost woman who dared to revolt against us, and you have brought us someone from a different world."

Tiy glared at the Elder in the middle and responded in a snarky tone.

"Your gaze didn't seem to fall on him, so I figured that I should bring him here."

The other four Elders turned to look at Isaac in unison, like puppets all controlled by one master. They seemed to peer into Isaac's soul, but showed no response as to what they saw.

Tiy looked between Isaac and the Elders.

"If you wish to talk to him, then you have to use magic, even if you are so against it."

This seemed to infuriate the elder on the far right, who wore leather armour instead of the robes the others wore. The elder on the Far left brought out a small piece of leather and drew a circle that would translate everyone around it, and handed it to a lady who lay on his lap, who took it to the altar.

As the woman walked back up to the man, the Elder in the centre spoke up again.

"So, other-worlder, what brings you to our world?"

As Isaac opened his mouth, a recognisable voice spoke in his mind.

"Trait 'Human' has been activated."

"Your intelligence will drastically increase to guarantee life."
