Chapter 2 - Chaos Unleashed

Last in Netherworld: Journey to the Unknown

The ground trembled violently, a deep rumble echoing through the air. Barka and Nite stumbled as the earth split open, fiery lava spiraling upward like a ravenous beast. The festive decorations were ripped apart by a fierce wind, leaving chaos in their wake. The protective forcefield of the Netherworld flickered and vanished, exposing the city to an impending doom.

In the streets below, panic erupted. Shadows of lost spirits twisted and writhed, their anguished cries piercing the night. Barka's heart raced as she broke free from security, racing toward the tomb where the ruby lay buried. Nite followed close behind, adrenaline fueling their desperate search.

They unearthed the seal, dirt flying as they clawed at it. Their eyes widened in horror: the ruby was gone.

"Who could've taken it?" Barka gasped, her voice trembling. The only being with such power was a descendant of the Takahashi brothers—a thought that sent chills down their spines.

Suddenly, two figures emerged from the darkness: Principal Taike and the school instructor. Their presence was suffocating. Taike's eyes blazed with fury as he advanced, fists clenched like iron. He struck Nite with a brutal force, blood spraying from his nose.

"What are you doing here? I birthed you, yet you still manage to ruin my reputation!" Taike's voice echoed like thunder, his rage palpable.

Nite's fists tightened, his body vibrating with suppressed anger. But just as he was about to retaliate, Barka stepped in, wrapping her arms around him. "Nite, don't. It's not worth it!" she whispered, her voice a soothing balm against the storm of their emotions.

Tears streamed down Nite's face, the weight of despair crashing over him. "Dad, we were just trying to check on the ruby," he said, his voice steady but laced with urgency. Taike, still simmering, motioned for them to follow.

Outside, the city was a nightmare. Spirits filled with rage surged through the streets, their ghastly forms tearing apart anything in their path. Barka and Nite stood atop a building, horror etched on their faces as they witnessed the chaos below. The return of the Takahashi brothers felt imminent, a dark prophecy unfolding before their eyes.

A powerful force landed nearby, an evil spirit engaged in a fierce battle with the authorities. Taike rushed to the scene, talisman in hand, and with a swift incantation, he suppressed the spirit. Turning to the authorities, his voice was a mixture of authority and desperation. "What's happening? We're powerless against these spirits' aura!"

"We need to find the perpetrator! Inform headquarters immediately!" he commanded, urgency lacing his voice.

"Yes, sir!" they responded, scattering into the chaos.

The absence of the forcefield left the Netherworld vulnerable, a breeding ground for the resentment-infused souls that lingered just outside its borders. Barka felt a deep foreboding; trouble was brewing, and they were at its center.

"What's going to happen to us?" Barka asked, her voice barely a whisper. Nite brushed the tears from her cheeks, pulling her close. "Nothing's going to happen to us," he replied, though uncertainty flickered in his eyes.

"Okay, kids, let's get you home," the instructor said, his tone steady but tinged with concern. They held hands, navigating through the chaos as they were led back to Barka's mansion.

Upon arrival, Barka's heart sank. Her father stood there, bandaged and weary. "Dad! What happened?" she cried, rushing to him.

"Relax, child. I was wounded trying to save a kid from an evil spirit. It's nothing serious," Malai reassured her, pride swelling in her heart.

Taike stepped forward, his expression grim. "An investigation is underway. We await results."

"I hope it's not what I fear... If this continues, we might have to venture to Weizhi for a new ruby. It's a perilous task," he added, dark clouds of worry gathering in his eyes.

"We'll just have to see," Sadokshi replied, the weight of their unknown fate hanging heavily in the air.
