Chapter 5 - The Outskirts Of The Netherworld

They found themselves in the shadowy realm of lost souls. Dark, stormy clouds loomed overhead, thick fog curling around them like a shroud. The air was thick with the mocking calls of resentment spirits, their wails echoing through the oppressive atmosphere. The aura of resentment hung heavy, a palpable blend of danger and dread.

Spiritual beings, both benevolent and malevolent, lurked in the shadows, their cries piercing the silence from miles away. This land housed creatures the Netherworld could never hope to subdue, a realm steeped in corruption, calamity, pain, and anguish. Behold, it was the land no living creature dared to tread—the land Saiyans avoided—the land of distress... Do Shereba.

The friends observed from their ship, a hellhole they had dared to enter. In this land, survival of the fittest was the only rule. Just then, Nite burst into tears, his voice cracking. "I can't handle this... Why did we come here? Let's go back home! I... I don't want this!" Tears streamed down his cheeks, shoulders slumping under the weight of his despair.

Xiao Xi moved to comfort him, resting his head on Nite's shoulder, sending calm, soothing waves into his troubled mind. As Nite gradually calmed, they all gathered the courage to leave the ship.

Doushi and Xiao Xi checked the ship's fuel system while Nite and Barka stood guard. Seizing the moment, Barka decided to explore the ominous landscape. The sight remained bleak and unchanging until a peculiar creature emerged from the shadows.

It had puffy cheeks and light-brown fur, tiny hands and feet adorned with sharp claws. Its eyes sparkled like emeralds, and tiny ears perked up on its head. A small pink nose sniffed at everything around it. Barka stood entranced, all her instincts screaming at her to run, yet she remained rooted in place, mesmerized by the creature's audacity.

The creature crept closer, until the distance vanished. It curled up by her legs, and Barka knelt down, reaching out to gently pet it. Feeling a strange sense of calm, she followed the creature deeper into the dark land, a smile lighting her face—until, in an instant, the transformation occurred.

The adorable creature morphed into a towering beast, its brown fur replaced by menacing black spikes. Its once-gentle green eyes now blazed red, and its claws elongated into lethal weapons. The creature roared, unfurling its wings and hovering menacingly above her. Barka's heart raced; she stood frozen, wide-eyed and trembling, as fear gripped her body. With a sudden lurch, she backed away, but the creature lunged, its claws piercing her skin.

Barka screamed, adrenaline flooding her veins as she ran for her life. She grabbed nearby rocks, hurling them at the creature, but it remained relentless. Desperate, she called out for her friends, who rushed to the scene to witness Barka cornered by the monstrous being.

Doushi transformed into her werewolf form, charging at the creature with a fierce growl. Xiao Xi summoned dark magic, calling upon the spirits of the land to assist them. Under his influence, the spirits swarmed the creature, clawing and biting with relentless fury.

Nite rushed to Barka, helping her up as they bolted alongside Doushi and Xiao Xi. The spirits dissipated as the creature pursued them with tireless rage. They sprinted through the treacherous terrain, but the creature was faster. Just when exhaustion threatened to claim them, Doushi halted, determination shining in her eyes.

"Go on without me!" she shouted, her voice unwavering. The others protested, but she stood firm. As the creature closed in, Doushi attacked, raking her claws into its eyes. The beast roared in pain, and Xiao Xi joined the fray, summoning the dead to aid them in their desperate battle.

The souls attacked in a chaotic frenzy, cornering the creature and momentarily suppressing it. But just as hope flickered, more creatures emerged from the shadows, stronger and more menacing. The friends took off again, hearts pounding as they fled.

Out of breath, they sought refuge in a cave, where Nite sealed the entrance with a protective talisman. But they couldn't rest; the threat loomed large, and the talisman wouldn't hold them off forever.

"Guys... that talisman isn't going to last," Doushi warned, her voice edged with anxiety. "What's the plan?"

Nite clenched his fists, anger boiling within him. He turned to Barka, his voice sharp. "What's wrong with you? You're like a magnet for trouble! It's your fault we're stuck here! You got us trapped with these creatures that want to feast on us!"

Barka's heart sank at his words, her spirit dimming under the weight of his accusations. "I... I didn't mean to—"

Nite interrupted, his voice cutting through the air like a knife. "Your thirst for adventure is the beginning of our doom, you wretch!" The silence that followed was deafening, the truth hanging heavily in the air.

Doushi and Xiao Xi exchanged glances, accepting the bitter reality. Barka felt the sting of their gazes, her heart aching. In this shadowy realm, she had led them into the depths of despair, where danger lurked at every corner.

The sound of claws scraping against the cave entrance jolted them back to the present. They were far from safe, and the fight for survival was only just beginning.
