Chapter 30 - The Higher-ups

A/N: Thank y'all for the powerstones. I'm grateful.

...

Tokyo Jujutsu High.

"Protecting the students?" Satoru raised an eyebrow, then he sneered, "Do the higher-ups think I'm their dog that they can order around?"

Because of his fear of his future death, Satoru had been training vigorously in the Gojo clan, helping them once in a while when there were missions no one in the clan could complete. Maybe because of his lack of interest in asking questions and hardly refusing missions, the higher-ups might think he was easy to control.

"Tell the higher-ups that I'll act as a supervisor, but..." Satoru kept the document and looked at Masamichi with a smile, "...I'll only protect my classmates."

...

Satoru and Suguru's dormitory.

Satoru stepped inside, surprisingly finding Suguru coming out of the bathroom.

"Eh? You're back?" Satoru asked as he sat on his bed.

"Mmm," Suguru hummed as he collapsed on his bed, "The mission wasn't hard."

"Oh..." Satoru nodded, but just as he was about to ask why Suguru didn't text him, a chime came from the chat group—someone had sent a message.

[I'm a samurai: HELP!!!]

[I'm a samurai: HELP! A GHOST IS ABOUT TO EAT ME!!!!]

[Unlucky reincarnator: Eh?]

[Blood Moon valkyrie: Hmph! A mere ghost and you cower to the group chat? Fight back! Kill the ghost and see if it bleeds!]

[I'm a samurai: Fight? I'd rather get arrested!]

[Blood Moon valkyrie: Weakling!]

[I'm a samurai: Hey! Find a way to help me than-!]

Gintoki's words were cut short.

[Unlucky reincarnator: Gintoki, are you there?!]

[I'm a samurai: Phew! I successfully escaped the ghost!]

[The Honored one: You escaped it?]

[I'm a samurai: Hehe, of course! I just broke my arms—now I don't have to carry the body! Prideful jpg.]

[Slug Sannin: Are you really a samurai? You're a disgrace.]

[I refuse to marry: I must concur. Maybe you should change your career—a butler would befit you, surely.]

But contrary to his behavior, both Tsunade and Rias's jabs weren't responded to.

[Unlucky reincarnator: Hey, Gintoki, are you still there?]

[I'm a samurai: ...You guys, I'll see you in the underworld. (TT)]

[Unlucky reincarnator: Hey, Gintoki! Gintoki!]

Mio repeatedly called his name in the group chat, but Gintoki didn't reply.

....

Satoru stared at the group chat and chuckled, lying down on his bed to sleep. He was also confused but seeing the still lit avatar of Gintoki he shook his head,

' Must be one of his hilarious antics'

.....

The days went by in a blur, and the day for the Goodwill event arrived.

.....

Tokyo Jujutsu High.

"Are we the only ones going?" Satoru asked as he scanned the group.

Shoko, Suguru, Mei Mei, and a blonde upperclassman whom Satoru recognized—Nanami.

"The others didn't meet the prerequisite for participation," Masamichi, standing beside Satoru, said.

"Ah..." Satoru nodded, then turned and looked at Mei Mei in confusion. "You're also going?"

From what Satoru knew of her—after joining her in missions for weeks—she would utilize every moment she had to gain more money.

"Masamichi-sensei promised a reward after our victory," Mei Mei said with a shrug.

Satoru turned to Masamichi.

"The victory of our school would reflect positively on our reputation," Masamichi said.

Satoru turned and stared at Nanami. "And this is?"

"Kento Nanami," Nanami said. "I'll do my utmost to secure victory for the school."

Masamichi, who had been standing by the side, checked his watch and turned to the group. "We're going. Hurry up," Masamichi said as he turned and walked toward the bus parked at the side, the group of students following close by.

Mei Mei, while walking, shifted to Satoru's side and flashed a smile. "Satoru-san, after the Goodwill event, I have a mission. Let's go together."

Satoru raised an eyebrow and stared at Mei Mei for a while before he nodded. "Alright."

.....

The drive from Tokyo to Kyoto was an hour's drive, but with the bullet train, it turned to minutes.

After stepping out of the station, the Tokyo High group entered a bus already waiting for them.

Satoru idly watched the fast-moving cars and buildings, but then Masamichi, who sat by his side, spoke.

"The higher-ups didn't take your words lightly."

Satoru blinked and turned to Masamichi in confusion.

"I told the higher-ups about your response to your duty, and their response was..." Masamichi turned and stared at Satoru, "...threatening."

Satoru smiled in disdain. "Threatening?... It seems the higher-ups have sat in that position for so long that they forget what rules the world isn't words or diplomatic nonsense—it's strength... Guess I'll have to show them the hard way."

Masamichi stared at Satoru, vaguely guessing what was going through his mind. "Be careful."

Satoru smiled as he stared at the window, watching the buildings rapidly shift away. "Don't worry. I'll be super careful."

....

The bus stopped, and the group of six stepped out.

The entrance of Kyoto Jujutsu High, though also hidden deep within the mountains, wasn't like their Tokyo counterpart, where Torii gates flanked the stairs.

At the entrance of Kyoto Jujutsu High, Gakuganji stood together with four teenagers: Utahime, Sakurako, and two boys—one with black hair and bloodshot eyes, the other with a hood and a headset.

But Satoru's attention wasn't at them. Instead, he stared at the flamboyantly dressed man who stood close to Gakuganji with his head raised and two strong-looking men standing at his back. As Satoru noticed the man, the man also noticed Satoru and, with a prideful aura, strode towards them.

"You must be Gojo Satoru?" the man asked as he stared at Satoru.

"Mhm," Satoru nodded in confirmation. "And you are?"

"Hmph! You don't need to know my name. Just know..." The man flipped his hair dramatically, "...I'm here on the orders of the higher-ups to detain..."

Boom!

The man hadn't finished his words when an aura like a hammer ruthlessly struck him down, sending him kneeling pathetically on the floor.

Satoru stared at the man, his voice cold and devoid of emotion.

"It seems the higher-ups don't know my power."

...

A/N: After having several readers inform me of the chakra stuff in chapter nine, I did further research and found that chakra and cursed energy do not contradict each other but may maintain a delicate balance (Yin nature chakra actually possesses some similarities with cursed energy). So I was thinking: Should Satoru also learn chakra?
