Chapter 29 - Kenjaku 2

A/N: Thanks for the powerstones.

.....

Swoosh!

Kenjaku ran across roofs with a thoughtful expression; the battle between Satoru and Rōgō kept replaying in his mind.

'They were never evenly matched,' Kenjaku thought. This was the conclusion he had arrived at after analyzing the battle.

Though it had appeared that Satoru and Rōgō were evenly matched that wasn't true. Satoru had been playing with Rōgō like a cat plays with its prey—the cat would be amused at first before it becomes bored and then it eats its prey.

'But this isn't normal... how is he so strong?' Kenjaku thought. Being a millennium-old being, he had naturally seen previous owners of the Six Eyes, but although this Satoru Gojo hadn't reached some of his ancestors in their prime, he had already surpassed all of them when they were in their youth.

'This Gojo... an intriguing anomaly. His existence could disrupt the balance. I'll have to intervene before he becomes a nuisance.'

.....

Abandoned warehouse.

After the defeat of Rōgō, Mei Mei texted the middle-aged man about the completion of the mission.

"T-Thank you..." Satō bowed to Satoru as he subtly stared at the destroyed warehouse, trying his best not to cry.

Satoru, noticing his gaze, smiled. "The curse spirit was really strong; I couldn't control its attack."

Satō forced a smile. "Oh, I see. Then I'll have to thank Gojo-kun for destroying it, or else more destruction would have happened."

"It's nothing," Satoru said as he waved his hand.

"Let's go," Mei Mei—who had already confirmed the completion of the mission and discussed the increase—approached Satoru.

"Mhm," Satoru nodded as he followed Mei Mei to the black car parked to the side.

.....

Tokyo Station.

"Ahh..." Mei Mei stretched as she stepped out of the bullet train, unable to hide her glee. "Who would have expected a mission would fetch us 50 million yen?"

Satoru, who had also stepped out with her, chimed in from the side, "Just don't forget my 60% share."

Mei Mei's lips twitched slightly. 'Of course. But we can still do missions together, right?'

Satoru nodded. "Of course."

Mei Mei smiled, then walked away, waving. "See you next time."

...

Tokyo Jujutsu High.

Satoru walked into their dorm only to notice the absence of Suguru.

"Eh? Did he go on a mission? But he didn't tell me," Satoru muttered as he scanned the dormitory. Normally, before going on a mission, Suguru would send him a message.

"Maybe Shoko would know," Satoru said as he vanished, appearing in front of Shoko's clinic door.

Knock! Knock!

"Who is it?" Shoko's listless voice came from behind the door.

"It's Satoru," Satoru replied as he waited patiently, but he stood in the hallway for five minutes, facing the surprised gazes of people passing by.

Satoru's lip twitched as he vanished again, appearing inside Shoko's clinic, causing Shoko—who had been leaning on her chair and scrolling through her phone—to nearly fall on the floor.

"You could've waited," Shoko said flatly.

"You didn't seem like you wanted to open the door, so I had to come in my own way," Satoru said as he casually sat down on a chair opposite Shoko.

Shoko rolled her eyes as she continued pressing her phone, but then she paused and stared at Satoru. "I'm not trying any new shop nor going to the mall with you."

"Eh? Why would you think I'd say that?" Satoru asked.

"That's because you normally look for me either when a new sweet shop is opening or when you're bored and feel like strolling in a mall," Shoko sighed as she stared at Satoru with a deadpan gaze. "Sometimes I think we've got our genders mixed up."

Satoru smiled as he waved his hand. "I'm not here to take you out."

"Oh?"

"Have you seen Suguru?" Satoru asked.

Though Riko's death hadn't happened—that would lead Suguru further down the dark path—who knows if another, more tragic thing might happen? After all, Satoru's actions have already created the butterfly effect—the arrival of Rōgō was one such anomaly.

"Suguru? He didn't tell me where he was going," Shoko said with a shrug.

Satoru's expression became confused for a moment before he turned to Shoko. "Guess I'll have to wait for him to come back before I ask."

"Since you've answered your question, shoo, go away," Shoko said as she continued scrolling through her phone, the other one waving Satoru off.

Satoru smiled, but just as he was about to leave her clinic, his phone buzzed.

Masamichi-sensei: Meet me in my office.

Satoru blinked as he slipped his phone back into his pocket. "Then I'll be going."

Swoosh!

He vanished and appeared directly inside Masamichi's office, causing the middle-aged man, who was squatting and sewing a doll, to pause for a moment.

"Don't you know how to knock?" Masamichi asked as he stared at Satoru.

"You sounded urgent, so I had to arrive quickly," Satoru said as he walked and stood behind Masamichi, curiously watching the numerous dolls scattered on the floor, but he didn't see the famous panda doll. 'Figures, he should be around the same age as Maki and the others.'

"I sounded urgent?" Masamichi blinked. How had he sounded urgent?

"Forget it," Masamichi shook his head and pointed at a file that lay on his table. "Read it."

Satoru took the file and flipped through it, then he paused and stared at Masamichi. "The higher-ups don't want me to join this year's Goodwill event?"

"Mhm," Masamichi nodded as he stood up. "They feel like you're too strong; if you join, you might discourage the other students and make them doubt their abilities."

Satoru nodded and kept the file. "That's true. Fine by me; anyway, I'd rather stay in the school than limit my strength severely so I won't kill someone by mistake."

"You're not staying in the school."

"Eh? Why?"

Masamichi smiled. "The higher-ups say your limitless is versatile and can enable you to teleport and save anyone who is in danger."

Satoru: "I don't think it's that simple."
