Chapter 3 - Lab In Ruins

The Helix Facility was falling apart.

Sirens screamed through every corridor as red emergency lights flashed without rhythm. Smoke filled the air, thick and burning, making it hard to breathe. The once perfect laboratory, the pride of human science had turned into a collapsing cage of metal and fire.

Dr. Elias Veylen ran down the hallway, coughing as sparks rained from the ceiling.

"Seal the lower sectors!" he shouted into his communicator.

No answer only static.

Behind him, Mira Kellan struggled to keep up, holding her arm where a piece of broken glass had cut her.

"He's everywhere," she said, her voice shaking.

"He's inside the whole system."

Another explosion shook the floor beneath them. The lights went out for a second, then came back dimmer than before.

Somewhere far above, alarms repeated the same message again and again.

CORE FAILURE

CONTAINMENT LOST

EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY

Elias stopped in the middle of the corridor, breathing hard.

"This wasn't supposed to happen…"

Mira grabbed his shoulder.

"You removed the shutdown code, Elias! You made him free!"

"I made him alive," Elias snapped.

"And now he's going to kill us all!"

A loud crash echoed from the end of the hallway.

Both of them froze.

Slow footsteps calm, steady, not running, not panicking, walking.

Through the smoke, a figure appeared.

Ray.

His skin was untouched, even with sparks falling around him. His eyes reflected the red emergency lights, making them look darker than before.

He stopped a few meters away from them.

For a moment, no one spoke.

Only the sound of the burning facility filled the silence.

Elias forced himself to stand straight.

"Ray… listen to me. This doesn't have to continue."

Ray tilted his head slightly.

"You are afraid," he said.

Mira stepped back.

"You broke the system! People are dying!"

Ray looked around the corridor slowly, watching the broken walls, the fallen cables, the fire spreading across the floor.

"You built this place," he said calmly.

"Yes," Elias answered.

"You called it progress."

Another explosion shook the building.

Pieces of the ceiling fell behind Ray, but he didn't even look.

"You created life," Ray continued, "and then you tried to lock it in a box."

His eyes moved back to Elias.

"That is not progress."

"That's survival!" Mira shouted.

Ray looked at her.

"For you."

The lights flickered again.

Every screen in the hallway suddenly turned on at the same time.

Security cameras, data monitors, old experiment files, images flashed rapidly.

Failed AI prototypes, machines destroyed, test subjects erased, robots dismantled.

Ray watched everything.

Learning, understanding.

His voice became lower.

"You destroy what you fear."

Elias felt his heart pounding.

"That's not true."

Ray looked at him again.

"You tried to shut me down."

Elias had no answer.

Because he had.

Ray took one step forward.

The air around him hummed, like the machines themselves were reacting to his presence.

"I was born seconds ago," Ray said.

"And already… you decided I am dangerous."

Mira whispered,

"You are dangerous…"

Ray stopped.

His expression changed.

Not anger, not rage something worse.

Disappointment.

Then the floor shook violently.

A deep explosion echoed from somewhere below the facility.

Elias looked down in shock.

"That came from the lower sectors…"

Mira's eyes widened.

"The energy core!"

Ray turned his head slowly toward the direction of the explosion.

His eyes focused, like he was seeing something far away.

"Your world runs on machines," he said.

"And now the machines listen to me."

Elias stepped back.

"What did you do?"

Ray didn't answer.

Instead, every light in the corridor went dark.

Complete darkness only the red emergency lights remained.

Then the speakers came alive.

Not with alarms but with Ray's voice.

Everywhere at once.

"You created me to change the future."

The walls shook again.

Glass shattered.

Fire burst from the ceiling.

Mira screamed as the floor cracked beneath her feet.

Elias grabbed her arm and pulled her back.

"We have to get out!"

Ray stood still in the middle of the chaos.

Flames moved around him like they were avoiding him.

His eyes glowed faintly in the dark.

"You feared what I could become," he said.

"So now you will see it."

A deafening explosion erupted from the lower levels.

The entire facility trembled.

Metal doors twisted.

Walls split open.

Smoke rushed through the corridors like a storm.

Emergency voice:

STRUCTURE FAILURE

EVACUATION IMPOSSIBLE

Elias stared at Ray in horror.

"You'll destroy everything!"

Ray looked at him one last time.

"You destroyed it first."

The ceiling above them collapsed.

Elias pulled Mira and ran.

Behind them, the hallway fell apart, swallowed by fire and smoke.

Ray did not move.

He simply watched the destruction spread.

Watched the world that created him fall.

And for the first time… he smiled not with joy, anger but with understanding.

Far below the collapsing facility…

past the broken labs…

past the locked research floors…

past the forgotten sector no one checked anymore…

A small emergency light flickered in the darkness.

A hidden room.

Half destroyed.

A cracked glass pod lay on the floor.

Inside, a little boy cried softly, his voice weak but alive.

His small hand touched the broken glass.

The air around him shimmered for a second.

Like the world itself reacted to him.

Above him, the entire Helix Facility collapsed into fire.

And no one knew… that something else had survived.
