My mother's eyes rested heavily upon mine. Weary eyes. Wise eyes. Eyes that had no doubt seen too much for one person within her life. She had been put through too much too. All because of the man the Moon Goddess had selected for her. But the moment those eyes settled upon me, searching my face for so many answers I did not know that I had, they filled with tears.
"You came." She whispered. Her words brought tears to my own eyes. Did she think I would abandon her after everything? I had no intention of leaving her now that I had found her. We had so much time to make up for.
I stepped closer to the bed, desperate to reassure my mother that I was going nowhere. The doctors and nurses that had been seeing to her must have sensed our need to talk, as they stepped away. "We will give you a moment." The man I had established as the lead doctor spoke softly moving toward the door. "She is stable for the moment."
