The moment the building was visible and I had heard Althea's words I did not want to hear another thing. I knew what I needed to do and I needed to go. My mother needed me. She had nobody fighting for her anymore, which meant it was down to me to save her. Without so much as looking back, I moved toward the door. I just hoped I was not too late.
Kael was right behind me. I could sense him. Be it protecting me or following me, he was there. His footsteps were not faltering. His presence strong. But I was struggling to accept this new version of him. I had enough to process right now without trying to determine what was happening with Kael and I.
