Chapter 98 - Chapter 98 Not Too Late

"The number of monsters keeps increasing, as if they are deliberately trying to stop me from going somewhere." Frowning as she watched countless monsters throw themselves at her without fear of death, only to be crushed into mist by the stars surrounding her, Melanie pondered in her heart.

She had 'killed' countless monsters, but they kept springing from the mist as if they were endless.

This made even the composed Melanie feel a bit irritated.

These mists were very strange; Melanie's perception couldn't break through them, which was a very peculiar thing.

"I have a bad feeling about this." Looking up, Melanie gazed at the huge black shadow in the distance; it was a Clock Tower.

She had been wandering in this 'vibrant' city, but the thick fog had made her lose her way, and she didn't know where to go to find Leticia.

Perhaps she should go take a look at the Clock Tower?

This place was so obvious, it was almost as if it were guiding those who saw it to go there.

This was the only thing that could provide a sense of direction in the mist, and Melanie believed this couldn't be meaningless.

She should go and check it out, she thought.

So, she turned around and swung her sword.

The brilliant sword radiance briefly tore through the mist and destroyed the wall behind it, giving Melanie a momentary chance to observe that Clock Tower.

"Magic fluctuations, and so intense... Something has happened."

Melanie had only felt such terrifying magic fluctuations when fighting Leticia; in other words, Leticia was now using her full strength.

She was fighting against a powerhouse who was at least on the same level as them.

She had to hurry over there.

It wasn't that Melanie didn't trust Leticia; she just wanted the battle to end faster.

Besides, two against one was much simpler than a one-on-one.

Thinking this, Melanie stomped hard on the ground, and her whole body turned into a meteor, rushing towards the Clock Tower.

This terrified the old man observing in the dark. That Lord was in the middle of a battle, and if this scourge were to intervene now, the outcome would be unpredictable.

The old man had just been watching the battle between That Lord and Leticia for a while. Although That Lord had the slight upper hand, it was clearly impossible to defeat Leticia in a short time.

At this intense moment of battle, adding another powerhouse of the same level really worried the old man.

"Quick, stop her, at all costs!" He hurriedly shouted to his subordinates.

"We can't stop her! She's too fast, our mist beasts can't block her at all!" The sweating subordinates were helpless against the advancing Melanie and could only watch as she rushed to the front gate of the Clock Tower with the force of thunder.

Once she arrived near the Clock Tower, Melanie immediately felt the magic fluctuations coming from inside.

Sure enough, Leticia was fighting someone.

The magic fluctuations were a bit unstable; it seemed Leticia was being suppressed.

To be able to suppress Leticia in battle—this was a somewhat terrifying opponent.

Walking up to the front gate, Melanie pushed hard, but found that no matter how hard she tried, the gate wouldn't budge.

At this point, an ordinary person would be wondering if there was some mystery to this gate, or what mechanism was needed to open it.

But Melanie, she was an oddball.

Faced with something blocking her path, she only had one way of dealing with it.

Slash!

...

"Ugh." The petite girl rolled twice on the ground in a rather disheveled manner, dodging the arrows of mist that descended from the sky.

Her clothes were tattered, with quite a bit of fair skin exposed to the air, looking quite pitiful.

There was a trace of crimson at the corner of the girl's mouth, and her cheeks showed an unnatural flush.

"As a mortal, you are strong." The girl, wearing clothes made of mist, floated in the air, looking down at Leticia with an arrogant gaze. "But, I am a god, and humans have no way of defeating gods."

"Cough, cough, if every god were as weak as you, I would understand why you don't exist in history." Although she had fallen into a disadvantage, Leticia's mouth was still unforgiving.

It was just being suppressed; it wasn't like she hadn't experienced this feeling before.

To be honest, the pressure this god put on her was nowhere near the pressure the past Melanie had put on her.

When facing Melanie, she had used every trick in the book and still couldn't achieve the slightest result; all her spells were cut down by Melanie's sword.

But this god—she would dodge, she would fear Leticia's magic.

Compared to a god, she was more like a person who was just a bit stronger.

"I can still stall for time. I believe my sister can lock you up before I fail."

"Hmph, just relying on those little girls?" The Mist God sneered, though a trace of worry flashed in her eyes; that was indeed a hidden danger.

Nearly an hour had passed since the battle began. Although she had the upper hand, Leticia was just stubbornly holding on. Even now, the Mist God did not have full confidence in possessing Leticia.

Her will was too strong; she needed to at least beat her into an unconscious state.

How could that be easy?

"You are afraid, so I'm relieved." Leticia revealed a somewhat punchable smile. "Speaking of which, I should have another helper, and she should be arriving soon."

How much time had passed? That idiot Melanie should have thought to come to this Clock Tower by now, right?

It was so obvious, easily recognizable even in such thick mist. If she didn't come this way, Leticia would really start cursing.

"Are you talking about that white-haired one? It's impossible for her to come over." The Mist God said very confidently, wanting to crush Leticia's last hope. "I specifically locked her in a labyrinth, and the gate of the Clock Tower has been completely closed. Unless she finds a way to break it, it is absolutely impossible for her to come and help you."

And the way to break it was hard to find.

According to the Mist God's estimation, the lone Melanie would need at least a day to get here.

"I actually feel that you miscalculated." Leticia suddenly revealed an eerie smile. "I smell that annoying scent; she has already arrived."

"What..."

Before the Mist God could finish speaking, the tightly closed stone gate was shattered by an incredibly fierce sword aura.

Amidst the chaos, the white-haired girl held her sword, stepping into the Clock Tower, one step at a time.

"It seems I didn't arrive too late."

Yes, Melanie didn't like solving puzzles; she preferred to use absolute strength to crush everything.

For example, this gate: there were two ways to open it. One was to solve the puzzle based on the hints in front of the gate; the second was to just smash the gate to pieces.

Most people would choose the first, but Melanie was never an ordinary person.

"Still a bit late; I originally thought you would be earlier." Leticia wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. "Although a bit reluctant, we have to become comrades-in-arms now."

"With pleasure." The corners of Melanie's mouth turned up, and her eyes looking at the Mist God carried a hint of gratitude.

Thanking this god for allowing her to fight side-by-side with Leticia.
