Chapter 54 - Not Dead Enough

I told the server of the inn to remain indoors, and not to leave the inn under any circumstances if he wished he wanted to live. Then, the party stalked out the door.

The day was a sunless, clear sky. Far from the sky, the gruesome scene played out before me as clearly as through it were happening at midday. I heard shrieks above and looked up.

"Oh my god. Don't tell me we need to fight a second chimera." I said in anguish

Villagers had been snatched from the sky, screaming and thrashing, the chimera devourered them alive. Like a midnight snack that deserved to be eaten. The monsters wings blotted out the stars more thoroughly than the clouds. Human blood rained down in thick crimson drops.

It was too late to save the villagers. I drew my blood sword from my palm and prepared to defend myself from the chimera, quickly using inspect on one within range.

Chimera

Skills: Strength Boost (Level 4), Fire Spell, Life steal, Fire Resistance, Anti-Defense Reduction

Vitality:20000

Strength:92000

Defense:12000

Agility:34000

Mana:97300

This chimera was far stronger than the previous chimera we slain in the mountains. Instead of an second life skill, it replaces it in a fire resistance skill. Which can endure physically attack from fires. And it's health regeneration was replaced it into a lifesteal. The same skill that was imbued both my blood sword and blow bow.

"Damn, another chimera. This will be a world record. Two peak-level beasts slain in two days. We're about to get rich."

While Elias was thinking about the money he will earn to slain the monster. I saw one of my guildmembers fighting the chimera using their crossbows. It was no other than Barry and Natalie.

"Die, you wretch!" Natalie screamed at top of her lungs

Little did they know that their arrows mean nothing from the powerful beast. It bounced straight at its thick scales, making their arrows useless as ever. Then the chimera responded an attack at them.

"Natalie, watch out!" I screamed

The chimera tilted it's head and faced straight towards the archers. It's jaws widen, filled with godly amount of mana that was produced at its mouth. Now, unleashing a searing flames, the archers were done for. Suddenly…

"Mana mirror… activate."

Suddenly, Catherine dashes toward the chimera's direction, casting her signature skill "mana mirror" In front of the chimera. As it did, the searing flames plummeted straight at the chimera thick scales.

The transparent mirror appeared out of nowhere, deflecting the chimera's hot flames like a ricochet. The chimera burned in an instant. With it's face burned off. It collapsed through the ground like it was nothing.

"Graaaaa!" The chimera roared as it the flames were in contact on its own body

The chimera got the taste of its own medicine, it's searing flames deflected straight back to the chimera. Burning it's head off staring clean at the body.

"Haha, nice one little girl!" Elias shouted at the distance

Elias saw his adopted daughter's performance, he was shocked to know it's magic-deflecting ability that Catherine possess can kill even a peak-level beasts. As we were celebrating. Suddenly, an unexpected happened

"W-What the…?"

"Aint no way, it's alive!"

In all of a sudden, the chimera stood up like it was nothing. The searing flames that deflected through him didn't made a scratch. The instant after we celebrated, the sky erupted into scarlet flames. Unleashing it's attack once again

"Huh? So, the chimera wasn't dead?" Elias lend out a confusing face

The chimera recovered from the flames that was scattered at its body. It regenerated like it was nothing, I knew from my appraisal skill that this chimera didn't possess any regenerating capabilities, only it's life-stealing sustain.

While Elias lent out a dumbfounded expression, I briefly explained the chimera's skills to my brother.

"Brother, that chimera has an fire resistance skill. It's wounds heal in an instant when it is in contact from it's searing flames."

"Damn, that chimera has a sly move. I will tell Catherine about its skills. Thank you Eirene!"

Upon learning the chimera possess an fire resistant skill. My brother began telling his party about the dangers they had to face. While my guildmembers were dumbstruck about the monsters abilities.

"L-Lady Roxy, what on earth is that?" Natalie shook in fear.

The archers, Natalie and Barry, were stood in fear, knowing their arrows were useless from the chimera's thick scales. Natalie's poison arrows didn't even penetrate at the chimera's skin, while Barry's magic arrows dealt no damage. I told them about the dangers

"Fellow guildmates, that is a chimera. Your arrows mean nothing about that beasts strength."

"W-What?"

"You two, protect Cassius from the chimera. He's inside the inn. Go now!"

"How about you, Lady Roxy?"

"We'll be fine, don't let the chimera touch Cassius. Protect him with your lives!"

"Roger that, Lady Roxy."

The guildsmen archers went straight to the inn's doors, where Cassius is located. The guild we're worried about Cassius safety because he is tied from the ruler of Town Allure, Lord Phillip Morris. As they left, the chimera started attacking the villagers.

But it was no time to celebrate, brave villagers who fought the chimera got clutched by the monsters gaze. The two of them, twined together, landed a thud near my feet. I was overwhelmed by the monsters strength.

The corpse that was shredded by the chimera was the body of the village elder, the one who tasked the villagers to evacuate. With him gone, who else could rule this beautiful lakeside village? These villagers had made it clear that they weren't about to listen to me or the village elder.

The chimera were unfazed by the villagers taste. Drinking on the taste of human flesh, they readied themselves to attack their next meal.

"Charge!" Elias screams at top of his lungs

Elias transformed his revolver into the shape of a sniper rifle by using metamorphosis magic. Transforming into a stronger weapon that can defeat the chimera easily. He fired numerous shots at the chimera's head

However, the weak spot still remains the same, located at the vital part of its head. The chimera was clearly in agony at this point. It's scales were cracked everywhere, and blood was pouring from its mouth in great gouts.

Elias used it's sniper rifle to target it's claws, gums, eyes, tail, basically any spit that seemed even mildly unguarded. Then, whenever we saw an opening. I close in with my blood bow to pound the chimera's head, flank, and other vital areas I could reach.

"Holy shit…"

Natalie muttered in awe inside the inn as she watched the battle behind a small window from Cassius room. Everyone's eyes were glued to the spectacle unfolding before them. Even Cassius was watching with such unabashed excitement that it was hard to believe he'd shuddered with terror mere days ago.

Halfway through the fight, Patricia had returned and had been about to join in, when she'd been stopped by me, who had guessed Elias's true purpose for fighting so savagely. The village was more of an battle area than a sacred place.

"Woah, this chimera is tougher than I imagined. Despite it didn't possess a second life." I said to Elias

"Indeed Eirene, I suppose that this twin chimera is stronger than the previous one. I think that this is his brother."

As I said that, I saw a new side at Elias. The side I never saw before. All I know I his cold and aloof side, but something not right.

"Roxy, can you hear me?" Plasma anticipating my thoughts

"Plasma?"

"Your brother is ruthless as ever. He didn't finish the chimera off with his dark magic or any other of his heavy duty weapons. He wanted to show just how powerful he was to his little sister and the others."

"Huh? My brother wouldn't do that."

"You're lying. He was using the chimera to show off different strategies. After all while the chimera's attacks were powerful, it huge frame made it an easy target, a powerful attack meant nothing for your brother."

Upon hearing Plasma's response, it seems that he would be correct, he is just showing his skills to us. The deeper side of him thinks that he was just bragging about his skills over protection. Then, Plasma continued surveying my thoughts.

"He wanted to make an example of his power on the off chance about his blasphemous remarks after they parted ways. He wanted to show him that there was nothing even an entire nation could do to stop him."

"You're a sly assistant, Plasma."

"Indeed Roxy, watch your brother toying with the chimera. Let's see his true strength."

I stopped and took a break. As from Plasma's response. It might've looked like Elias was just using the chimera as his punching bag, which he was, but it's tenacity still impressed him.

He had managed to crack the scales, but he still hadn't been able to shatter a single one. It's stamina and defense power were truly admirable. That's the stats of a luminous knight.

"Damn it, I ran out of mana. I'm tired of this." Elias muttered

After a while, Elias decided he'd put on enough of this show. Deciding to finish it off, he quickly stepped into the chimera's blind spot, then kicked it into its back once more. Taking advantage of its sluggish movements, he pulled one of his black spear out of his shadow vault.

The black spear is roughly five meters long, made entirely of his dark magic, the same size of a standard pile bunker. Patricia and the other guys began murmuring each other, but Elias ignored them and stabbed the black spear in place.

He set the dark-coated stake spinning, making sparky fly off the shadow vault. He had no doubt his four ton stake would instantly kill the chimera.

However, as the saying went, even a cornered mouse would bite a act. I was just stood there, as my brother's abilities were too overpowered. It seems chimera were no exception.

"Graaaaaaah!"

With an ear-splitting roar, the chimera let loose a monstrous shockwave. It was no more than a haphazard explosion of mana, but It was powerful enough to shake loose Elias, who'd not strengthen his already ridiculously powerful body to the limit, but he dug the spear deeper to it's flesh. The chimera rolled over in an attempt to send Elias flying.

My brother crashed at the inn, where Cassius was staying inside. Elais spared only a glance to the spear that had vanished into the horizon before turning his attention back to the chimera.

"Tch, Patricia. Now!"

"R-Roger!"

Elias chided himself for letting his guard down before calling out Patricia. Using my blood sword as a foothold. Patricia leaped into the air, then hurtled toward the chimera like a meteorite. She was determined not to miss this time.

In perfect condition, the chimera might have stood a chance at dodging, but weakened at it was, it had no hope of escaping Patricia's wrath

"Ahhhhhh!"

Patricia poured as much mana as she could to her rapier, turning an already shining sword into a dense force of destruction. It sliced into the chimera's head with a resounding crash.

The force of the blow had Patricia doing a near handstand as her body flew into the air, as the chimera's head slammed into the ground with earth-shattering force.

"Phew. That should make up for my mess up earlier. But man, this thing's tough…" Patricia gasping for air

After the shockwaves died down, silence reigned on the village. Now the chimera was defeated.
