Chapter 32 - chapter 32

Rain continued falling across the city.

Steady.

Cold.

Relentless.

Ethan stood motionless near the apartment window, eyes locked onto the figure below.

The man hadn't moved.

Hadn't spoken.

Hadn't shown any hostility.

And somehow—

That made him even more dangerous.

"…Executor," Ethan repeated quietly.

The word felt heavy.

Important.

Lena glanced between Ethan and Kai.

"…What exactly is that?"

Kai didn't take his eyes off the figure outside.

"…A problem."

"That doesn't explain anything."

Kai stayed silent for a second.

Then finally spoke.

"Observers gather information."

"Auditors verify threats."

"Hunters eliminate unstable targets."

A pause.

"Executors decide whether entire situations should continue existing."

Silence filled the room instantly.

Lena's expression tightened.

"…That sounds insane."

Kai nodded once.

"…It usually is."

Ethan looked back down at the figure below.

The Executor stood calmly beneath the rain, completely unaffected by the weather.

No umbrella.

No tension.

Just patience.

"…He's waiting for us," Ethan muttered.

"Yes," Kai replied immediately.

"…Why?"

Kai finally looked at him directly.

"…Because someone like that doesn't chase."

A pause.

"They expect people to come to them."

That confidence alone said enough.

Ethan focused carefully on the connection around the figure.

And immediately froze.

"…I can't read him."

Not like the null-types.

This was different.

Null-types felt empty.

This man—

Felt complete.

Closed.

Perfectly sealed.

Not a single emotional ripple escaped him.

"…That's impossible," Ethan said quietly.

Kai's gaze sharpened slightly.

"…No."

A pause.

"It's mastery."

The word settled heavily in Ethan's chest.

Mastery.

Not suppression.

Not resistance.

Control.

Absolute control.

For the first time since discovering his ability—

Ethan felt genuinely outclassed.

The Executor slowly raised his eyes again toward the apartment window.

Directly toward Ethan.

Then—

Very slightly—

He tilted his head.

An invitation.

Or a challenge.

Maybe both.

"…Don't go," Lena said immediately.

Ethan looked at her.

"…I know."

But even as he said it—

He understood something important.

This person hadn't come here for a fight.

If he wanted violence—

The building would already be gone.

Kai stepped away from the window slowly.

"…You should meet him."

Lena turned sharply.

"…Are you serious?"

Kai nodded calmly.

"…Yes."

"That's a terrible idea."

"Probably."

Ethan sighed softly.

"…You really don't help."

Kai ignored him.

"…But avoiding him would be worse."

Silence.

Because deep down—

Ethan knew Kai was right.

Someone like this wouldn't disappear just because he hid.

And honestly?

A small part of Ethan wanted answers.

Real answers.

"…Fine," Ethan said quietly.

Lena stared at him.

"…Ethan."

He looked at her gently.

"…I'll be careful."

"That's not reassuring anymore."

Fair point.

Kai moved toward the apartment door.

"…I'll come with you."

Ethan frowned slightly.

"…You think that's enough?"

Kai smirked faintly.

"…No."

Honest, at least.

A few minutes later—

They stepped outside.

Rain hit Ethan immediately, cold against his skin.

The street was quieter than usual.

Almost unnaturally so.

The Executor stood near the opposite side of the road, hands still in his coat pockets.

Waiting.

As Ethan approached—

The pressure changed.

Not heavier.

Sharper.

Like standing near a perfectly sharpened blade.

The Executor studied him calmly.

Not aggressively.

Not mockingly.

Objectively.

"…Interesting," he said at last.

His voice was smooth.

Controlled.

Every word precise.

Ethan stopped a few feet away.

"…You know who I am."

The Executor smiled faintly.

"…Of course."

A pause.

"You're difficult not to notice lately."

Ethan didn't respond.

Because this man spoke differently from the others.

Not like a hunter.

Not like an observer.

Like someone already standing above the system.

Kai remained slightly behind Ethan.

Silent.

Careful.

The Executor glanced briefly toward him.

"…Kai."

Kai nodded once.

"…Adrian."

Ethan's eyes narrowed slightly.

So the Executor had a name.

Adrian.

"…You know each other," Ethan said immediately.

Neither answered right away.

Which was answer enough.

Adrian looked back toward Ethan.

"…You've caused quite a disturbance."

Ethan crossed his arms slightly.

"…Wasn't intentional."

"I know."

That answer surprised him.

Adrian stepped slightly closer.

Still calm.

Still unreadable.

"…Tell me," Adrian said softly, "…what do you think you are?"

Ethan frowned.

"…What?"

"Your ability."

A pause.

"What do you believe it is?"

Ethan hesitated slightly.

Because honestly—

He didn't know anymore.

At first it had seemed simple.

Emotions.

Connections.

Resonance.

But lately—

It felt like something bigger.

Something evolving faster than he understood.

"…I don't know," Ethan admitted.

Adrian smiled faintly.

"…Good."

That wasn't the reaction Ethan expected.

"People become dangerous when they think they understand power too early."

Rain continued falling quietly around them.

Ethan studied Adrian carefully.

"…You're not here to kill me."

Adrian's expression didn't change.

"…No."

A pause.

"If I were, this conversation wouldn't exist."

The terrifying part?

Ethan believed him instantly.

Kai remained tense beside him.

Watching every movement carefully.

Adrian noticed.

"…Relax, Kai."

Kai's voice stayed flat.

"…No."

For a second—

Amusement flickered in Adrian's eyes.

Gone just as quickly as it appeared.

Then Adrian looked back at Ethan.

"…Your fracture."

Ethan stiffened immediately.

"…You can sense it?"

"Obviously."

Adrian tilted his head slightly.

"…You forced unstable synchronization beyond your current limit."

Ethan blinked.

That was… painfully specific.

"…How do you know that?"

Adrian's faint smile returned.

"…Because I've seen it before."

Silence.

Ethan's chest tightened slightly.

"…Someone else had my ability?"

Adrian's eyes sharpened subtly.

For the first time—

Real interest appeared in them.

"…No."

A pause.

"Not your ability."

Another pause.

"But your potential."

The rain suddenly felt colder.

Because something about that answer unsettled Ethan deeply.

Adrian stepped back slightly.

"…You're progressing quickly."

His gaze shifted briefly toward the apartment building above.

Toward Lena.

"…Too quickly."

Ethan immediately noticed the glance.

His posture tightened.

Adrian noticed that too.

"…There it is," Adrian said softly.

"…What?"

"The weakness."

Ethan's jaw tightened slightly.

Adrian continued calmly.

"…Attachment sharpens your ability."

A pause.

"But it also destabilizes it."

Every word landed with uncomfortable accuracy.

Because Ethan already knew it was true.

Adrian looked toward the rain-filled streets again.

"…The organization believes you may eventually become uncontrollable."

Ethan crossed his arms tighter.

"…And what do you think?"

Silence.

Then Adrian finally answered.

"I think you haven't decided yet."

That answer hit harder than any threat could have.

Because deep down—

Ethan understood exactly what he meant.

Power wasn't what defined danger.

Choice was.

Adrian turned slightly, preparing to leave.

Then paused.

"One warning."

Ethan stayed silent.

Listening carefully.

"The people watching you now…"

A brief pause.

"…are not the most dangerous ones anymore."

The air suddenly felt heavier.

Ethan's eyes narrowed.

"…What does that mean?"

Adrian glanced back over his shoulder.

Rain slid quietly down his dark coat.

"It means," he said calmly, "…someone higher noticed you."

And then—

Without another word—

He walked away into the rain.

Gone.

Just like that.

Ethan stood frozen in place long after Adrian disappeared from sight.

Because somehow—

That conversation felt far more dangerous than any fight before it.

And deep down—

For the first time—

He realized something terrifying.

He wasn't just entering a hidden world anymore.

That hidden world had started paying attention to him back.
