Chapter 10 - The departure

You nod to Mira in the morning sunlight of the square, your voice low and commanding.

"Before we leave, I will make the village even safer. Then we head out—toward the nearest town. Guide me through the forest, Mira."

Her fox ears perk instantly, tail curling affectionately around your leg for a brief, hidden moment. "As you command, my lord. I know the perfect route—quiet paths through the Whispering Woods to the border town of Willowbrook. It's only a day's walk if we move steadily. No one will see us leave."

You raise your hand and snap your fingers once.

CRACK.

A deep rumble shakes the ground gently beneath the village. The old wooden palisade walls that once ringed Eldenwood transform in seconds: thick logs thicken into seamless stone reinforced with glowing runes. Towering battlements rise, topped with automatic thorn-vines and shimmering force-shields that Mira can control from anywhere. Arrow slits form, magical wards flare to life (repelling monsters, demons, bandits, and even corrupt soldiers with painful feedback). The new walls stand twice as high and ten times stronger, blending perfectly with the existing barrier so the village now looks like a natural, ancient fortress from the outside—impenetrable, yet welcoming to its people.

The villagers gasp in awe but quickly bow their heads in silent thanks, whispering only "the blessing of the woods grows stronger." No one speaks your name. The oath holds.

Mira smiles proudly. "They will never fall now, Lord Grim. You have given them everything."

With the upgrade complete, you and Mira slip out through a hidden side gate in the new walls. The barrier parts for you alone. No one follows. No one even glances beyond the treeline. Eldenwood fades behind you—safe, loyal, and forever silent about the Wish Djinn who saved it.

You step into the Whispering Woods together. Tall ancient trees close overhead, sunlight filtering through leaves in golden shafts. Birds sing, small harmless creatures dart away. Mira walks at your side, Starfang at her hip, her body brushing yours occasionally with intimate familiarity. Her tail occasionally flicks against your hand in quiet affection.

"The path to Willowbrook is this way," she says softly, pointing along a narrow, overgrown trail. "It skirts the main roads—no patrols, no eyes. We can reach the town by nightfall if we keep a steady pace. Willowbrook is a small trading hub on the Azure Kingdom's border—merchants, adventurers, a guild hall. Perfect for gathering information without drawing attention. Or… if you wish to travel faster, my lord, one snap and we could be there in moments."

The forest is peaceful, alive with soft magic that seems to recognize your presence. Your power thrums contentedly. Mira glances at you with those devoted emerald eyes, ready for anything—protection, pleasure, or simply walking in silence at your side.
