You nod once to Mira, giving her silent permission.
Mira turns to Guild Master Thorne, her voice calm, clear, and carrying through the suddenly quiet hall. Her fox ears are steady, tail still, Starfang resting at her hip.
"I decline. I work only for my master, Lord Grim. He is the only one I serve. No kingdom, no guild, no high-rank quests will change that."
A stunned silence falls over the entire adventurers' guild.
Thorne's scarred face twists in disbelief. "You… what? An S-rank Sword Mage turning down the Azure Kingdom's offer… for an F-rank nobody with a joke class called Granting Wish?" He glances at you with open pity and irritation. "Girl, you could be rich, famous, a hero. This weakling will only drag you down—"
Before he can finish, the guild doors burst open with a loud bang.
A small girl—no older than ten—stumbles inside, sobbing uncontrollably. Her fine silk dress is torn and muddy, golden hair matted with leaves, face streaked with tears and dirt. She collapses to her knees in the middle of the hall, voice breaking into desperate wails.
"P-please! Help my mom and dad! They got attacked by four A-rank wyverns! We were traveling to Willowbrook when the monsters ambushed us on the Skyroad Pass! I… I'm the Duke's first daughter—Lady Elara von Azure! My parents are the Duke and Duchess! They're fighting right now but they can't hold out! Please, anyone—help them! I'll give anything!"
The guild erupts again.
"Four A-rank wyverns?! That's a disaster-level threat!"
"The Duke himself is in danger?!"
"Even S-rank parties would struggle with four of those flying bastards at once!"
Guild Master Thorne's eyes widen. He immediately forgets about scolding Mira and barks orders. "All S-rank and above—move! This is an emergency quest! The Duke's life is on the line!"
But every eye in the hall keeps flicking back to Mira—the brand-new S-rank Sword Mage standing right there.
Mira doesn't move an inch. She stays glued to your side, emerald eyes locked only on you, waiting for your command. Her hand brushes yours discreetly, full of absolute loyalty.
The little noble girl, Elara, spots Mira's shining silver guild card and crawls forward on her knees, grabbing the hem of Mira's leathers with tiny, shaking hands.
"Please… Miss Sword Mage… you're S-rank… you're the only one who can save them in time! I beg you!"
The entire guild is watching. No one suspects your true power. They still see you as the useless F-rank "Granting Wish" tag-along.
Mira leans in and whispers so only you can hear, voice soft and devoted:
"Your will, my lord. I go where you say. I fight for no one but you."
The crying Duke's daughter is still clutching Mira's leg, sobbing. Guild Master Thorne is staring at you both, clearly expecting Mira to rush off and be the hero.
