Chapter 100 - Unnamed

Chapter 100 Common Misconceptions Wizards Make

Vico walked up to his son, patted him on the shoulder, his expression extremely serious.

Just as Aaron thought he had said something wrong to displease his father, Vico's mouth curved slightly upward, "I'm very pleased that you can realize this, but our ancestors could naturally think of what you can."

"Then why did you still bring me here?" Aaron looked at the warehouse full of cold weapons and was speechless. In this day and age, even a Wizard couldn't stop bullets!

No matter how good you were with a sword, it was useless; one shot would still kill you.

"Times have changed, but we never fall behind the times." Vico put on a profound look, then drew a short sword. "Let's not talk about that for now. You first try the quality of this sword."

Aaron took the short sword, but the moment he gripped the hilt, he clearly felt a small portion of his magic flow away, uncontrollably pouring into the short sword.

"This is…" Aaron raised his eyebrows in surprise, "A magicweapon?"

He tried to swing it, and an extremely clear sword hum echoed incessantly, his robes also swaying slightly with it.

Aaron's eyes lit up, and he became more interested in these cold weapons.

If it could only cut through iron like mud, it wouldn't be enough to change his mind, because that was merely an ordinary item. But if it was a divine weapon, then that would be another matter.

"King Arthur once relied on the Sword in the Stone to fight a city alone; in fact, that was not a legend.

But the true story cannot be told clearly in a few words. In that war, King Arthur's enemies, besides humans, included countless magical beasts," Gines explained. "Whether in the magic world or the Muggle world, a powerful weapon is enough to change a battle.

Although the weapons here are not as good as the Sword in the Stone, their power is much greater than ordinary weapons, and they also have a certain restraint on magical creatures. In contrast, weapons made by Muggles are much inferior."

"Exactly," Vico shrugged. "Give you a gun and ask you to fight a dragon; your bullets would probably run out before you could even break the dragon's scales.

Besides, there are also ghosts, blood kin, Werewolves, and so on; firearms do pitifully little damage to them.

But with a weapon like this, it's different; it's definitely twice the result with half the effort."

Aaron nodded, placing the short sword back on the weapon rack, "Which weapon in the treasury has the greatest power?"

Vico and Gines exchanged a smile, "He's still a child; his temper is a bit too impatient."

"Hmph! If you won't tell me, then you won't.

There are so many weapons here; I'll just try them one by one."

Vico was stunned for a moment, then smiled even more happily, "I advise you to give up on that idea. I used to think the same way, but after several days of searching, I still couldn't find it."

"No way!" Aaron opened his mouth in surprise, then seemed to think of something, looking at the weapons in astonishment, "Could it be that the most powerful one isn't here?"

"Smart, you catch on quickly."

Aaron pursed his lips and gave the butler a wronged look, "Uncle Gines, can you tell me?"

"No," Gines said with a wry smile, shaking his head. "Even the master cannot use that sword casually, let alone me."

"Ahem!

Don't say what shouldn't be said; at least save me some face."

"A sword? Cannot be used casually?" Aaron raised his eyebrows, asking with interest, "Could it be the legendary Sword in the Stone?

My goodness, that should be considered within the realm of divine artifacts, right?"

"What are you thinking?" Vico rolled his eyes. "The Sword in the Stone is too powerful; after King Arthur's death, Merlin sealed it away, and no one knows where it's hidden."

"It's not? Then I'm truly disappointed."

"What do you know?

Although our family's sword is not as good as the Sword in the Stone, it's not far off. It's a masterpiece forged by the ancient Elves in the depths of a volcano for several years using various rare treasures, meant to witness the friendship between the Elves and the Gaius Family.

Because of its special significance, it cannot be used casually."

"Can I see it? I promise I'll only look." Aaron rubbed his hands excitedly, his eyes very sincere.

The weapons here were already rare and exquisite, let alone a treasure from the Elves. If he couldn't satisfy his curiosity, he would be incredibly itching with anticipation.

"Of course!" Vico didn't disappoint his son, but just as Aaronwas about to smile, he added, "When your swordsmanship is recognized by Gines."

Aaron: …Although it was a letdown, he still picked a suitable weapon from hundreds of options.

"Come on!"

"Now?" Gines frowned slightly, "Young Master, with all due respect, you are not even a beginner yet; challenging me is a bit too early."

"I understand, I just want to know the difference."

"This…"

Gines hesitated for a moment, turned and glanced at Vico, as if seeking his opinion.

Vico did not speak, merely nodded gently.

Gines instantly understood: give the Young Master a lesson, but don't hurt him.

Soon, he also took a sword, but after thinking, he swapped the sword for a short knife, and finally picked a dagger, whose length was less than one-tenth of the sword in Aaron's hand.

Aaron saw the process of the other party choosing a weapon and said with some displeasure, "You're looking down on me too much!"

"It's not looking down on you; the main concern is hurting you," Gines waved the dagger in his hand. "With this, I don't have to worry so much."

It sounded reasonable, but Aaron still felt a bit angry.

"Dad, you be the judge."

"Gines is a professional," Vico said. "I can't interfere in this matter."

"Alright!"

Aaron said no more, gripping the sword with both hands and assuming a fighting stance.

Gines was unconcerned, but still tightened his grip on the dagger.

Vico drew his wand, and a golden spark shot from the tip; the duel officially began.

Aaron quickly swung a sword, the wind whistling.

This was the sound of the long sword cutting through the air, and the hilt and blade were burning hot. The silver blade also glowed with a blue light under the supply of magic, as if it were about to catch fire.

Gines raised his eyebrows, smiling as he lifted his dagger to block.

Clang!

The long sword and dagger clashed; one was the attacker, the other the interceptor. Aaron had a slight advantage, pressing the dagger down a few inches.

However, Gines simply shifted his body, and the dagger in his hand quickly slid forward, scraping against the long sword and producing a shower of sparks.

Aaron only felt a dazzling sensation, and when he opened his eyes, the dagger was already at his throat, while his sword was stopped to Gines's left.

"I lost just like that,"

Aaron murmured, somewhat unable to accept it.

In fact, it was his first time using a sword, and he knew his own limits.

It was certain that he was no match for the butler, but he thought he could at least last one or two rounds.

But he didn't expect to be defeated in less than two seconds, very decisively.

"Not bad."

"Don't comfort me; just let me be."

"It really isn't bad," Gines praised. "Although the attack is quite immature and the adaptability is insufficient, the momentum is well-controlled, at least much stronger than those beginners.

In other words, Young Master, you are quite formidable, stronger than the head of the family back then."

Vico's face darkened, "Let's not talk about that."

"Yes!" Gines laughed awkwardly, putting the dagger back on the rack.

"Son, how do you feel?"

"Not good at all.

I feel a strong sense of frustration."

"That's right," Vico mused. "This holiday, your task is to learn swordsmanship from Gines."

"What?" Aaron's expression was a bit troubled.

He admitted that the weapons here were quite good, but he didn't feel there was a need to learn swordsmanship.

He was a Wizard, not a swordsman; a wand was enough.

Seeing his appearance, Vico was not surprised, as if he had already anticipated it.

"Alright! I know you might be a bit unwilling.

Indeed, magic is more powerful than weapons, and magicweapons are also a type of magic; that's what you think, right?"

"Isn't it?"

"Of course not," Vico said seriously. "It's understandable that you have this idea; I used to think the same way.

But son, I must tell you a fact, a common misconception that all Wizards fall into: a wand is also a type of magic weapon.

A Wizard's true power is only one thing: magic.

Other methods are auxiliary, but they cannot be absent, especially close-combat ability."

Aaron was silent for a moment upon hearing this, but upon careful thought, it seemed to be true.

A wand only makes the casting process smoother and more fluid, but for a Wizard, it's not like they can't get by without a wand; otherwise, there wouldn't be such a thing as wandless casting.

"But I don't necessarily have to practice swordsmanship!

Compared to those cold weapons, I'm still more accustomed to using a wand; close-range casting is definitely easier than using a sword."

Hearing this, Vico smiled and shook his head, "In short, learning swordsmanship has its benefits; you won't lose out, and you'll eventually find a use for it."

"Give me a reason," Aaron said, a little unconvinced.

"This is a family rule: once you reach Advanced Magician, you must learn to use a sword.

You have one holiday's time, but the sword is just the beginning; you also need to learn other things. Do you have any objections?"

Aaron: …You've even brought up family rules; do I dare say yes?
