Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Neighbors in the Night /

The word "vortex" echoed repeatedly in Lin Mo's mind. From the classroom to the school gates, the crowds seemed muted; only Xiao Qian's answer in history class was like a fine thread, pulling at his entire attention.

The setting sun stretched his shadow long. It wasn't until a cold breeze brushed past his fingertips that Lin Mo snapped out of his trance. The streetlights at the corner flickered on, and he saw Xiao Qian's silhouette ahead. He walked slowly, his necklace flickering with a blue shimmer under the lights.

They were actually taking the same path. A few minutes later, Xiao Qian stopped in front of him and glanced at a house number. Lin Mo was stunned—it was the unit right next to his.

"So you live in this building too." Xiao Qian turned slightly. The moment their eyes met, the air was so quiet one could hear the hum of the power lines.

"I just moved in," Xiao Qian said with a smile. But behind that smile, Lin Mo saw a strange detachment, like someone accustomed to constant departures.

Before opening the door, Xiao Qian suddenly paused and turned back to ask: "Do you think history is created by people, or chosen by them?" Lin Mo froze, unsure of how to answer, only managing to whisper, "Maybe... it's both."

Xiao Qian turned and entered the room. A flicker of blue light still shimmered through the gap in the door—a sign of some power quietly awakening in the dark. From a corner outside the window, a pair of eyes as cold as mirrors watched everything in silence.

In the night, Luo An leaned against the library window, a hidden golden secret flickering in her eyes. She looked at the sleeping Xiao Qian and whispered, "Do you... still remember the 'Tide Covenant'?"

Xiao Qian's eyelashes fluttered. In his dream, he saw an endless sea and a collapsing coral tower. Luo An watched him quietly, her golden pupils glowing slightly in the darkness: "As expected, it's you."
