During dinner, Jun told his grandmother that he was thinking about getting his own small apartment, maybe then he could have more independence, but he didn't want to leave her alone or hurt her feelings.
"My dear, I will always support whatever decision you make, and I won't be left alone..."
"Grandma..."
"That's alright, but why don't you use one of the family apartments?"
Jun looked down at his plate and his expression changed.
"Grandma, I don't want to rely on my father. I want to achieve things on my own."
"But it's your right, dear."
"I can do it on my own, Grandma..."
His grandmother stood up and took a small notebook from behind some books, handing it to him.
"What is this, Grandma?"
"Here is all the money your father has sent you over the years."
Jun opened it and looked at it, surprised.
"Why would he do that?"
"Because, despite everything, you are his only son and his only heir..."
Jun closed the notebook and handed it back.
"I can't accept this... I don't want anything from him..."
"Jun... it's not his, it's your right." He sighed. "At least keep it for emergencies..."
"I don't know, Grandma..."
She opened it again and pointed at something.
"Do you see this account that sends money every week?"
"What about it?"
"Your mother, Jun... your mother..."
"Why would she do that?"
"Because she is your mother..."
Jun froze, staring at it. He didn't expect his mother still remembered him or had been sending money all these years.
"Keep this now and finish your dinner. You can think about it tomorrow."
In his room, Jun was confused, torn between accepting or rejecting the money. He was afraid that using it would mean bowing to his father and his expectations of abandoning music to take over the family business.
"This is such a mess..." he muttered. "I'll figure it out tomorrow."
Sayuri was also anxious. In front of her bedroom mirror, she rehearsed over and over how she would tell her parents about Jun.
She knew it wouldn't be easy, especially with her father. To him, Jun was just a jobless musician with childish dreams.
"Damn..." she sighed, running her hands through her hair.
She tried again.
"Dad... Mom... I'm dating someone... surprise!!"
She made a face at her reflection.
"No, no... that won't work either."
She sighed again, frustrated.
Jun spent the day looking for a job, but without success. When he arrived at Kenji's house for rehearsal, he was exhausted and complained about how hard it was to find work in that city.
"But Jun, why are you doing this? You have money."
"I don't. My father does. That's different."
"Wouldn't it be much easier..."
"No."
"Where are the girls? Where did you say Yume took my girlfriend?"
"Look at you, 'my girlfriend'..." Kenji teased. "They went to get their nails done. Sayuri is enjoying her break. Stop being so clingy."
Jun grabbed his guitar.
"Clingy... I'm not clingy..."
"Hey, she's frustrated. Jun spent the whole day looking for a job and found nothing," Yume said.
"But why?"
"Because he can't keep living at his grandma's house forever, and it will be good for his future."
Yume realized Sayuri didn't know Jun's real social background, so she didn't mention anything about his family.
"I think I know a job for him."
"Where?" Sayuri asked excitedly.
"A record store owned by a friend of my mom. I think he would like it."
"That would be perfect. He knows a lot about that stuff."
Yume agreed and said she would recommend him.
"Thanks, girl... I'm excited to tell him."
"Say, better not say it's from my mom's friend. You know how Jun is with pride."
"You're right. Let's leave that part out."
Later that day:
"We're back!" Yume shouted.
The two girls found Jun and Kenji lying on the sofa like they had survived a war.
"Wow, such energy..."
"Baby... you're finally here..." Jun murmured weakly.
"We're bored..."
Yume made a face.
"Bored of what? You didn't even rehearse."
"We're out of inspiration."
Yume opened the laptop and checked the band site.
"Look at this one: 'I love Kenji's chords, they make me feel alive.'"
"Hmm, Kenji and his chords..."
"Another one..."
"Boy, Yume. Yuri is a boy."
"Oh right," she laughed. "'I love the songs, I wish I could buy an album.'"
Jun replied:
"Soon."
Kenji read another:
"'Jun's voice feels like a lost paradise I want to find.'"
"Wow, Jun breaking hearts."
Jun smiled shyly, but when he looked at Sayuri, his smile faded. Her face looked scary.
"I think someone's jealous," Yume teased.
"It's nothing... I'm not jealous..."
Everyone laughed.
"Who is writing these?" Yume asked.
"Ah, that Usagui..." Jun said.
Sayuri felt a strange chill and stopped reading.
Later that night, it rained outside. Yume went to the guest room, but Sayuri decided to leave.
On the way home, Jun rode his motorcycle and they got soaked.
When they arrived, Jun gave her a towel and clothes.
She wore his oversized clothes and stayed warm.
"Jun... I can't go home like this."
"Then sleep here."
She hesitated.
She called her mother and said she would stay at a friend's house.
Later they watched a movie, but halfway through, Sayuri remembered the job idea.
"Jun, I almost forgot. I think I found you a job."
"Where?"
"A record store. It's perfect for you."
Jun smiled hopefully.
"That would be perfect... really perfect."
They kissed and forgot the movie.
Morning sunlight filled the room.
"Good morning, dear, I didn't even see you come..." the grandmother said, freezing at the scene.
Jun and Sayuri were asleep together in bed.
"What is this?!" she shouted, hitting Jun's head.
"Ouch, Grandma..."
Sayuri woke up in shock.
"What do you think you are doing?!"
Jun tried to explain, but got another hit.
"Get up and get dressed!"
She left furious.
Sayuri hid under the blanket in embarrassment while Jun laughed.
"Why are you laughing?! You should be worried!"
"Worried about what, love? I told you my grandma is chill."
"Chill? You call that chill?!"
"You're so cute," he said, tickling her as she tried to calm down.
