Chapter 30 - Chapter 28: Maria's Perspective

[Maria Hill POV]

I was born in Chicago, Illinois.

My father is part of the U.S. military, and my mother is a housewife. I'm the only child, and my dad is always deployed, so I don't know much about him.

My mother is a good person.

In kindergarten, I met two idiots who were older than me by 2 years. It's an idiot and a smarter idiot, and together they're clowns.

The smarter idiot thinks he knows everything and keeps pulling pranks on everyone and blaming it on the other idiot. I don't know why he keeps doing that.

Coincidentally, I live on the same block as the smarter idiot, and the other lives a block away.

The bigger idiot started going to the library, and he's not reading storybooks but bigger books than himself. I don't know why, but for the whole week, the idiot has been having some kind of nightmares, talking about a green monster and a human who is a spider.

Those nightmares must be scary.

Alan, that's the other idiot's name, looked at him weird but still played together. I think I'm being included in their circle.

The days were fun.

Those idiots started attending primary school and left me in kindergarten. I'll attend primary school in 2 years.

It's still okay because we still play together after school. I befriended someone named Rachel Cole; she's shy but still playful.

I play with Rachel while I'm in kindergarten, and after school I play with those idiots. I tried to invite Rachel to play with us, but she's shy. I didn't push it.

I started attending primary school, and I'm in the same class as Rachel. Rachel is my best friend, but we still play with other kids from time to time.

I thought Lex would be the smartest in the entire school, but he keeps getting average grades. He gets Cs, and sometimes he gets B-.

[A/N: I'm just correcting myself because I didn't use American grade point measuring when I mentioned Felix's scores. Sorry about that.]

His name is Felix, but I call him Lex, and his mother calls him Feel or Phil, and Lan calls him Books. Lan is a nickname of Alan.

Lex told me to stop calling him Lex because the nickname makes him feel like a villain. I don't know what's going on in his mind sometimes.

I kept calling him that just to make fun of him. I even called him "Final Boss: Lex Vale," and he said that sounds like a character from Street Fighter. A game he's been playing.

Rachel started playing with all of us, and it was fun. Lex and Lan are older than us, but they don't treat us differently.

In the 3rd grade, Rachel's family had to move, and it was sad for me. Rachel looked like she didn't want to leave, but she didn't have a choice and she had to go.

In the third grade, there was a substitute teacher for just a few weeks, and her name was Emma Frost. She always knew what we wanted to say or wanted. She talked to Lan a lot.

She said she'll leave soon and go to Deerfield to look for someone. It's weird that Lex kept avoiding Miss Frost. I don't think he was ever near her at all.

I asked him why he doesn't talk to her or ask for help from her. He said, "What would I ask for help with, and what would I talk about with her?" That's a good question, and I just didn't ask him anymore.

In my 4th grade, there was a teacher named Dorothy Alleyne who just got married. Mrs. Alleyne is fun to talk to, and her teaching is easy to understand. Her husband is a nice person.

Lex and Lan told me that Mrs. Cross's daughter has run away from home. She and her parents don't know why she ran away from home. I hope she's safe from wherever she is.

Lex and Lan started attending middle school. I befriended someone by the name of Greer Grant. Her name is weird, but I call her GG.

GG and I are good friends. Rachel would call from time to time, and I would call her from time to time. We still keep in touch, and I told her about GG.

Apparently, Lex can speak four languages: English, Spanish, French, and Sotho. I don't know how he knows the last one, but apparently he's been learning some languages. He's saying learning Russian is hard, and he's currently learning Japanese and Korean.

When I was about to attend middle school, my father died while at war. I cried so hard, but my mother never shed a tear because she said she expected it, which made me more angry at her.

I saw her crying alone at night once, and that made me realise something. Even though she expected it, she didn't want it to happen, and here I am getting angry at her.

That made me wonder, what if I didn't see her cry that night? Would I hate her forever or till I'm grown enough to understand?

I started learning some martial arts, and it turns out I'm good at it. I asked Lan and Lex to join me at training, but Lex refused while Lan agreed.

Turns out, I'm better than Lan. Something was weird about Lan because he was able to react to my movements beforehand. I asked him about it, and it turns out he can see the attack coming within 5 seconds or less.

I asked him if he can see the future, but he said he can see the reaction of an action within 5 seconds.

Nice ability. To be able to see through walls, objects, or anything and be able to perceive the future within 5 seconds.

I was still able to beat him somehow because he can see it coming but can't react faster. So, he and I started running in the morning and training our agility.

Lan is staying with Lex. I asked him why Lex doesn't join him in the morning to run, and he said he doesn't want to.

Anyway, I practised fighting with Lan.
