Chapter 48 - Bab 48: Duel

Long after successfully finding the blue crystal orb, Arou, Tomo, and Haru continued their journey following the map's clues. The morning air had grown warmer, but the atmosphere around them felt different—an unexplainable tension lingered in the surroundings.

"Hmm… doesn't the atmosphere feel kind of… tense?" Haru said, glancing around nervously.

"Yeah… I feel it too," Arou replied, his eyes scanning the trees sharply. He knew this time might be different. Something more serious awaited them.

Suddenly, from behind the thick bushes, a tall, elegant figure emerged, surrounded by a dark aura that radiated overwhelming power. His crimson-red hair burned like flames, and his sharp gaze locked onto them.

"Who are you… to dare enter my territory?" the figure spoke in a deep, icy voice.

He stepped forward, wearing a dark robe that shimmered with red energy—Scarlet, the Demon King.

Tomo and Haru froze, their eyes widening in fear.

"A-Arou… w-who is that?!" Haru stammered, his body trembling slightly.

Arou stared at Scarlet with a serious expression, though tension gripped his heart. He realized something—he hadn't brought his sword. "S-stay calm… we need to think of a strategy," he said, trying to sound confident.

Scarlet smiled coldly and raised his hand. In an instant, demons emerged from the surrounding forest—tall, dark-skinned creatures with glowing red eyes and sharp claws. They surrounded Arou, Tomo, and Haru, increasing the pressure in the air.

Tomo bit his lip, panic rising. "Arou… we can't fight them… there are too many!"

Haru swallowed hard, eyes wide. "This… this is insane…"

Suddenly, rapid footsteps came from behind them. Scarlet turned, his eyes narrowing in suspicion. Emerging from the trees were Nova, a silver-haired mage, and Airi, a swordswoman. Nova walked forward without a weapon, yet her presence felt calm and powerful, while Airi drew her sword with determination.

"Ha! You're not alone!" Nova shouted brightly. "We arrived just in time!"

Arou let out a small sigh of relief, though he was still tense. "Nova… Airi… you came at the perfect time."

Scarlet looked at them all, his red eyes glowing. "So… these are your reinforcements? Interesting…" he said with a cold smile.

Nova stepped forward. "Scarlet, stop this! You can't just interfere with them like this!"

Airi pointed her sword forward. "If you want a fight… then be ready for my blade!"

Scarlet's smile deepened. "Then let's see what you're truly capable of."

The battle began.

Scarlet pointed at Airi. "I'll fight you one-on-one."

Without warning, his demon forces charged at Arou, Tomo, and Haru. Nova reacted instantly, raising her hand and casting a spell. Energy swirled around her as two floating swords appeared—one red, one blue—hovering before Arou.

Arou stared at them for a moment, then reached out, feeling them resonate with him. The swords became his weapons.

Scarlet struck forward, unleashing a powerful gust of wind that hit Airi directly. She was sent flying far away toward a distant hill.

"AIRI!" Arou shouted, eyes widening.

Without hesitation, Scarlet flew after her, leaving the battlefield behind.

Minutes later, he landed in front of Airi. The wind still swirled around the damaged terrain. Airi stood up, shaken but steady, her eyes sharp.

"Why would you fight someone as weak as me?" she asked calmly.

Scarlet smirked. "I chose you because you're the strongest among them."

Airi froze. "I… I'm not the strongest…" she muttered.

"You just haven't proven it yet," Scarlet said.

Airi tightened her grip on her sword. "Then I won't back down."

Meanwhile, back on the battlefield, Arou swung the red and blue swords, cutting through demon attacks. Nova supported him with precise spells, creating openings and shielding him from attacks.

"Hurry, Arou! There are too many of them!" Nova shouted.

"I know!" Arou replied, breathing heavily as he continued fighting.

From afar, Haru and Tomo could only see flashes of energy, wind bursts, and distant silhouettes.

"T-they're too far… we can only see shadows…" Tomo said.

Haru nodded. "Still… Airi looks like she's fighting hard. I hope she's okay…"

On the hill, Airi clashed with Scarlet. Every strike from Scarlet created shockwaves of wind and energy. Airi barely managed to defend, but she refused to retreat.

"You're holding your ground better than I expected," Scarlet said calmly.

"I won't give up!" Airi shouted.

The battle intensified—wind, light, and magic collided across the battlefield. Arou fought alongside Nova against endless waves of demons, while Airi faced Scarlet alone in a distant clash of overwhelming power.

And from the edge of it all, Haru and Tomo could only watch the chaos unfold, witnessing the beginning of a much larger war.
