James's POV
The apartment was quiet when my phone buzzed. I picked it up and saw Ronald's name on the screen. For a second, my heart beat a little faster. After everything that had happened at the school games earlier that day, the way Ronald had played better and the small kiss I had given him on the cheek, I wasn't sure what to expect.
I answered. "Hey."
Ronald's voice came through, a little hesitant. "James… can I spend the night at your place? I don't really want to go home right now. My head's full."
I didn't even need to think about it. "Yeah. Come over. I'll leave the door unlocked."
About thirty minutes later, I heard a soft knock. When I opened the door, Ronald stood there in a simple hoodie and jeans, his bag hanging from one shoulder. His usual tough expression was softer tonight. I stepped aside and let him in.
"You hungry?" I asked as I closed the door.
He nodded. "A little."
