Chapter 47 - First Contact: System Conflict

The silence after the first Eclipse unit moved did not last.

It broke instantly.

Kael stepped forward.

No hesitation.

No warning.

Just motion.

Steel clashed against the first Eclipse unit.

The impact sent a shockwave through the ground.

Not sound.

Pressure.

Riven clicked his tongue.

"…Yeah, okay. So we're not talking anymore. Got it."

He moved sideways instantly, avoiding a strike that split the ground where he stood a second ago.

Elara remained still for half a second longer than normal.

Her eyes flickered again.

The Eclipse symbols beneath her feet reacted… strangely.

Not attacking.

Not stabilizing.

Recognizing.

Kael noticed it—but didn't speak.

Not yet.

The first unit attacked again.

Faster this time.

Its movements were not natural.

Not trained.

Programmed.

Kael blocked.

Redirected.

Countered.

But something was wrong.

These units didn't feel pain.

Didn't hesitate.

Didn't react emotionally.

They adapted instantly.

Riven landed a clean strike on one unit's side.

It staggered—

then immediately corrected its balance.

"…Okay," Riven muttered. "That's cheating."

Kael's voice came sharp.

"…They are system constructs. They don't fight like humans."

Riven sighed while dodging another attack.

"…Yeah, I noticed the 'no emotions, no breaks, no mercy' part."

Elara finally moved.

Slowly.

She stepped forward.

And the moment she did—

the Eclipse symbols on the ground flickered violently.

All units paused for a fraction of a second.

Just one.

Kael noticed instantly.

"…Elara… don't move further."

But she didn't answer.

Her eyes were slightly unfocused.

Like something inside her was pulling her forward.

Riven frowned mid-fight.

"…Okay, I don't like that look."

Suddenly—

one Eclipse unit turned toward Elara.

Not Kael.

Not Riven.

Only her.

"…Target shift detected."

Kael's expression changed instantly.

"…Move!"

He dashed forward.

Too late.

The ground under Elara lit up with black sigils.

Binding energy formed instantly.

Riven clicked his tongue.

"…Yeah. That's definitely personal now."

Kael struck the ground.

Force shattered part of the seal—but not all.

The system was adapting faster than him.

Elara raised her hand slightly.

Not fighting.

Not resisting fully.

Just… reacting.

"…It knows me," she whispered.

Kael's eyes sharpened.

"…No. It's reacting to you."

Riven landed beside them, slightly out of breath.

"…Okay, I'm starting to feel left out here. Why is everything always about her?"

Kael didn't answer.

He was focused.

Another wave of Eclipse units began forming in the distance.

More.

Faster.

Stronger.

"…They are escalating," Kael said.

Riven groaned.

"…Of course they are."

Elara looked at the sky.

The fractured Eclipse layers above them flickered again.

And for a brief moment—

something deeper looked back.

Not a unit.

Not a system.

Something behind it.

Elara whispered softly:

"…It's watching us directly now."

Silence.

Even Riven stopped talking.

Kael tightened his grip on his weapon.

"…Then we move before it finishes analyzing us."

He turned slightly.

Not retreating.

Not running.

Advancing deeper into the Eclipse zone.

Riven followed immediately.

"…Yeah, okay. I'm starting to hate how 'deep' always means 'worse' in your plans."

Elara followed last.

But her eyes stayed on the sky a second longer.

As if it was familiar.

Too familiar.

And somewhere far above them—

beyond the visible Eclipse layer—

a signal was sent.

"Anomaly trio confirmed."

"Observation level increased."

"Protocol: Shadow Awakening initiated."
