It started with pain.
"hss... kkkk"
A sound so low no body could possibly hear it.
In an unknow location.
Lab lights hummed softly. Rows of glass containers were placed side by side in neat order marked with neat labels consisting of letters and numbers.
One of such containers was placed in the middle of this lab with scientists and researchers moving about in white lab coats marked with a certain number 'sx69'.
"Induce the serum." A voice seemed to take the lead as a few eyes were focused on the container filled with spiders.
"Yes" A voice answered before following a set of measured movement injecting the serum.
A greenish blue liquid filled the container slowly as the creatures moved about trying to avoid the liquid but the container was soon filled drowning the spiders. They struggled a little before slowly calming down and floating peacfully in the liquid.
"Serum injected." A voice remarked professionally.
"Start the Radiation channels." The scientists in the lead ordered as he looked at the scans from the spiders on the computer screens.
It showed their body structures, measured the heart functionality and other factors under the radiation.
The spiders that had been floating calmly suddenly screached and thrashed frantically as their bodies began to change from the inside.
Some cells shattered some mutated but from the scientists perspective nothing was abnormal.
"Increase the frequency output." The lead scientist ordered as he kept looking at the data not looking too happy with what he was seeing.
"Are you sure Norman they might not be able to hold out." Another voice asked from the side with concern for their experiement.
"Tch *"
"We have been trying different kinds of serum under different conditions for a while now. Although we have some results it is definitely not enough for what we are trying to achieve."
Norman clicked his tounge as he signalled for the assistant to contiue to increase the radiation output.
"Well its not that bad right? We got a spider that seems smarter than dog and able to follow commands. One can parasite on small hosts.. err ah there is also one with bio electric disscharge right." The scientist joked trying to lift up the mood.
"Yeah sure a spider that just keeps jumping around, one whose hosts die as soon as it parasites, and the bioelectrical one can not even zap a mosquito. " Said Norman sarcastically.
The other scientist scratched his head as norman kept pointing out the specifics.
"Heh its still something.. eh. S-Stop the radiation channels"
As he shouted the scientists went into alert mode as they looked at the container.
The bodies of the spider's showed signs of mutations as small bubbles appeared on their bodies.
One then two the bubbles increased in number, the bodies of the spiders looked buldged as their sizes seemed to increased then *pop* one spider popped like balloon splattering the other spiders and the container with blood and body parts.
The assistant hurriedly switched of the radiation channels but the it seemed like a chain reaction had started and spiders popped one after another in the closed container. The container shook a little and things slowly clamed after a few seconds.
Norman looked carefully at the container then the data on the screen analysing carefully.
"What happened." A voice broke the silence as the others hurriedly look at the screens as well.
"I thought this one would be a bit better with new bio amplification enzymes but the effects aren't much different from the last one maybe weaker" Norman looked at the data of the current batch deep in though.
The cells had mutated a lot under the radiation, they seemed to filled with energy to the brim almost about the break. The neurons seemed to flicker and fire at rapid speeds faster than a normal spider. But these results they had already had them in the past. Now with increased conditioning better serums and increased radiations the results were the same no weaker than before, confusing the scientists.
"Maybe inducing too much stress and keeping them hungry for too long made them weaker, making them pop." One scientists commented making some nod others in thought.
"Collect the DNA for now put them in the archive section, make sure to monitor them periodically.
"Yes Dr." The assistant moved professionally soon carrying the contianer out of the room.
She walked slowly as she moved through a corridor lined up with overhead strips of lights that cast a clinical glow, soon arriving at a door that read spider archive, she scanned her identity card on the door and it opened with a hiss.
The dim light flickered and turned on brighting the once dark room. The room was filled shelfs lined up in near row filled with glass containers marked and labelled properly filled with glass container carrying creatures that looked like spiders.
As soon as the light turned on the once unmoving creatures hissed in discomfort moving slightly, some crawling around for while before slowing down and settling.
Although they were spiders one could not be sure iff they had to tell just by lookes alone.
Some were eearie black, some glowed with soft lights, some were thick bodied while other were small way too small.
The Assistant looked at the beautiful glowing spiders as turned towards the marked shelf.
A dull thud sound as the container ended up hitting the corner of the shelf due to her distraction, waking her up.
She hurriedly checked the container and sighed in relief see there was no damage before she continued moving.
She moved to a row and came to an empty place on shelf marked with same label and placed the container with practiced ease moved out of the room, the door closing behind her.
The lights turned off and silence returned to the room, the dark black spiders seemed to disaaper while the glowing spiders looked like fireflies in the dark.
When the dim glow landed on the container that was marked sx69 a slight crack the size of a fingernail could be seen which was not visible under the normal lights.
The silence was broken by a sudden sound of crack so low that maybe only the spiders could hear.
"hss... crrk" A pained sounded from a creature placed in that container. The spider a bit larger due to the mutation screached for a while more in pain trying to stand up, why? Beacuse it was hungry.
