Chapter 1 - HOLI

Once upon a time, in a land of golden palaces and emerald forests, lived a king named Hiranyakashipu. Now, this king was very powerful, but he had a very big problem: he was incredibly bossy and a bit of a bully. He wanted everyone in the world to pray only to him!

But his young son, Prahlad, was different. Prahlad was kind, gentle, and he knew that there was a power much greater than any king. He spent his days singing songs of thanks to the protector of the world, Lord Vishnu.

This made the King very grumpy. "Stop singing those songs!" he roared. But Prahlad just smiled and kept being kind.

The Trick and the Fire

The King decided to play a mean trick. He called his sister, Holika, who had a magical cloak. This cloak was special—it was like a superhero shield that protected whoever wore it from fire.

"Holika," the King whispered, "take Prahlad into a bonfire. You will be safe in your cloak, and he will learn his lesson."

Holika sat in the middle of a giant fire with Prahlad on her lap. But then, something amazing happened! Because Prahlad's heart was so full of love and goodness, a magical wind began to blow.

The wind gently lifted the cloak off the mean Holika and wrapped it tightly around Prahlad instead! Prahlad walked out of the fire without a single scratch, while Holika—and the King's plan—vanished into smoke.

Why We Use Colors

The next morning, the people were so happy that kindness had won! They wanted to celebrate, but they didn't have any decorations. So, they did something silly and wonderful.

They grabbed handfuls of bright powders.

They mixed them with cool water.

They threw them into the air until the whole sky looked like a rainbow!

They wanted to show that even though we all look different on the outside, we are all made of the same joy on the inside.

What Holi Means Today

When we celebrate Holi, we aren't just getting messy (though that's the best part!). We are remembering three special things:

Good wins over Mean: Just like Prahlad, being kind is the most powerful thing you can be.

Spring is here: The colors represent the flowers waking up after winter.

Everyone is a friend: When everyone is covered in blue, pink, and yellow powder, we all look the same. It's a day to forgive, hug, and start fresh.

So, the next time you see a splash of red or a cloud of purple, remember: it's time to be colorful, be kind, and be happy!
