Chapter 48 - ''Hang''{48}

Chapter 48: Hang

The white moon no longer hung in the sky.

It hungered.

Willowbrook High School – Shattered Main Hall

The fake Wyatt—the one still holding the bloodied metal bat—never saw Jackson coming.

One moment he was locked in combat with Lancelot. The next, Jackson's hand was already buried in his chest. Black mist erupted from the Soul Eater's palm like living ink. The fake Wyatt's eyes went wide with something that was no longer human.

Jackson's voice was almost gentle.

"You wore him long enough."

He clenched his fist.

The entity inside the false body screamed as its soul was ripped free—dark, thrashing, ancient. Jackson pulled it out in a single violent motion and consumed it. The black mist drank every fragment until nothing remained but a collapsing, empty shell that hit the floor like discarded clothing.

Jackson exhaled slowly, eyes colder than before.

"One less parasite."

Guardians of Destiny Headquarters – The End of the Knight

The Hell Knight still dragged the bleeding Rona toward the open portal.

Bane Mugabe moved first.

He drove a reinforced blade straight through the Knight's side with every ounce of strength he had left, the impact cracking the demonic armor. The Hell Knight roared and swung, but Loki was already there. Loki's form shifted into something tall and bladed, and with one clean, vicious motion he beheaded the Hell Knight.

The armored body staggered. The burning helmet hit the floor and rolled.

For a single second the hall was silent.

Then Titurus, Sin of War, threw his head back and laughed—a sound like entire battlefields screaming at once. He lunged, seized Rona by the throat, and hurled him bodily through the Hell portal.

"RONA!" Ofentse's voice broke.

The portal began to close.

Peter Shotstock—who should have been dead—forced himself to stand. Blood poured freely from the wound in his side. His vision swam. He still walked.

Titurus turned toward the remaining Guardians with open contempt.

Peter reached him.

With the last of his strength he slammed a high-yield explosive charge straight into Titurus's open mouth and shoved it deep.

"Swallow it," Peter rasped.

He triggered the detonator.

The explosion of the Sin of War's head lit the entire headquarters in a flash of white-orange light and raining demonic ichor. The shockwave flattened everyone still standing. When the light faded, Titurus's body collapsed in pieces.

Peter dropped to his knees afterward, finally spent.

But he was still breathing.

Egypt – Valley of the Forgotten Kings

The sandstorm reached its peak.

Pharaoh Salah's power had turned the desert into a living weapon. Then the tear from Mysteria flared wider, and the two battlefields briefly became one.

Paradonitious stepped forward through the swirling sand and, without a word, reached up and removed his helmet.

The face beneath was older, scarred, and unmistakably familiar.

Gideon the Phantom froze mid-phase. His eyes widened in pure recognition.

"…Kent Lockwood," he whispered. "You were listed as killed in the old Society records. I read the file myself."

Paradonitious—Kent Lockwood—met his gaze without flinching. "Reports of my death were useful."

The reunion lasted only a heartbeat. Then Pharaoh Salah attacked again with renewed fury. The combined forces of Egypt and the arriving Mysteria fighters met him head-on in a storm of sand, void, crystal, phantom blades, anger-fueled strength, dryad roots, blinding fire, and insectoid adaptation. Jonathan Smith shifted through forms faster than the eye could follow. Sylvana's vines dragged entire dunes down. Isaac's fire burned white tunnels through the storm. Nathan's illusions layered over the battlefield while Eddie kept Lia protected.

It was chaos.

It was beautiful.

It was war.

Willowbrook High School – The Demon Wolf

Ben, the former coward turned demon-werewolf, rampaged through the corridors with pure feral hatred. Students still trapped inside screamed and ran.

Kenshi Yung planted himself in the monster's path. Every claw swipe and bite was deflected with perfect, shimmering force, the attacks slamming back into Ben's own body. Hikoru's Kitsune form blazed at full power—multiple fox tails of living fire whipping through the air as she unleashed concentrated fox-fire blasts that burned even demonic flesh. Zane's Cursed Matter formed massive spiked tendrils and shields, slamming Ben into walls hard enough to crack concrete.

Vladimir Solokov joined them, silver elf magic weaving binding runes and luminous barriers that slowed the demon-wolf's movements just enough for the three newly awakened fighters to press their advantage. The four teenagers fought as a unit born in the middle of hell, refusing to let Ben reach the remaining civilians.

Guardians Headquarters – Power and Recovery

Cohen Washington stood at the center of the remaining defenders, issuing clear, rapid commands even as blood ran down one arm. Devonte reloaded without looking, every shot precise. Damon finally unleashed his Hollow ability fully—dark, light-consuming energy that swallowed entire clusters of remaining Hell Guards and left only empty space where they had stood.

In the medical wing, Doctor Thomas Watson and Sophia finished the last of their work. Kent and Steve sat up on their beds, fully healed, the residual pain numbed and the worst damage reversed. Both men flexed their hands, testing living flesh that should have still been broken.

Kent's voice was quiet. "We're not sitting the rest of this out."

Steve cracked his neck. "Damn right."

Godfrey Garowney – Side Investigation

Away from the main battle, Godfrey Garowney moved through a damaged outer corridor, investigating residual energy signatures. A low growl was his only warning.

A massive Werecougar slammed into him from the shadows, claws raking across his shoulder. Godfrey rolled with the impact, came up with blade in hand, and gave chase as the creature fled into the ruined outer grounds.

He cornered it near a collapsed wall. The Werecougar's body shimmered and folded inward, revealing a young man with sharp features and sand-colored hair.

"Name's Percy Cougar," the young man said, breathing hard. "And you just interrupted my hunt."

Godfrey did not lower his blade. "Then you better start explaining."

Ivan Petrov's Underground Lair

Ivan led Lucifer down a long, hidden staircase that opened into a vast underground chamber lined with maps, old bones, and carefully drawn summoning circles.

Lucifer looked around with mild interest. "You have been busy, Siren."

Ivan stood straighter than he ever had at school. The fear was still there, but purpose now rode above it.

"I can find the Hellhound," he said. "The Sin of Hatred. I already know the first location where its presence bleeds through. My voice can draw it. Your power can bind it."

He tapped a large map covered in red marks.

"This is the plan."

Lucifer smiled slowly.

"Show me."

Across Every Front

At the school, Jackson stood over the empty shell of the fake Wyatt while the real Wyatt still trembled on the floor. Lancelot kept the bat-wielding body restrained with coils of high-pressure water. Kenshi, Hikoru, Zane, and Vladimir continued to push Ben back. Moses, Kyle, and Gwen regrouped with weapons raised.

At headquarters, the Hell Knight was dead. Titurus was in pieces. Rona was gone through the portal. Peter remained on his knees, still alive by sheer refusal to die. Bane and Loki stood bloodied but unbroken beside each other.

In Egypt and Mysteria, two battlefields had become one under the tear in reality, and a man long thought dead had removed his helmet.

And far below the earth, a Siren and a Fallen made a deal that would change everything.

The white moon watched it all without mercy.

Volume 3 was no longer rising toward its climax.

It was already falling into it.
