**Chapter 41: Echoes of the White Moon**
**Willowbrook High School – Third Floor Corridor**
The hallway had become a war zone in under two minutes.
Lockers hung open like broken teeth. Ceiling tiles lay scattered across the floor in white dust. The creature Kevin had driven out of the classroom was already regenerating, its white mask knitting itself back together with wet, clicking sounds. Blue light pulsed behind the vertical crack. Students ran in every direction. Some were frozen in place, too terrified to move.
Kevin stood between the monster and the remaining kids, white-blue energy pouring from his arms in raw, unstable waves. His breathing was ragged. Blood ran from a cut above his eye.
Wyatt—or the thing wearing Wyatt—watched from the far end of the corridor. Reality bent around him in soft, sickening ripples. Desks floated for a second before slamming back down. The air tasted like static and old blood.
Then three new figures stepped into the chaos.
Lancelot Ito moved first. The new Japanese transfer student walked with calm precision, black hair falling across one eye, school uniform still perfectly neat despite the destruction. In his right hand he held a short, plain wooden practice sword that should not have been able to cut anything. When the regenerating creature lunged at a screaming freshman, Lancelot's blade flashed once. The creature's arm separated cleanly at the elbow and dissolved into blue mist.
Lancelot's voice was quiet, almost polite. "Please stay behind me."
Beside him, Ivan Petrov cracked his neck. The tall Russian transfer student looked more annoyed than afraid. Heavy metal gauntlets had already formed over his hands, glowing with dull orange heat. "I come to this country for education. Instead I get monsters. Typical."
He stepped forward and drove a gauntleted fist into the creature's chest hard enough to send it through two walls.
Further back, leaning against a broken locker as if none of this concerned him, stood Jackson. The quiet kid. The one who barely spoke in class and always sat in the last row. His eyes were fixed on Wyatt with cold, clinical interest. No fear. No excitement. Just analysis.
Inside Jackson's mind, something ancient and hungry whispered.
*That one is not alone. Something old is wearing him. Something that has eaten before.*
Jackson's fingers twitched once. A faint black mist curled around his knuckles and vanished. Soul Eater instincts catalogued every detail: the way Wyatt's shadow moved half a second too late, the temperature drop, the subtle drain on the surrounding life force. Jackson filed it all away and said nothing.
Kevin noticed the three of them and felt a brief, sharp spike of relief mixed with new worry. New variables. New risks.
The creature pulled itself free of the rubble, mask fully reformed, and screamed.

**Somewhere Between Realms – The Silent Shore**
Micheal stood at the edge of a black ocean that had no horizon. The water did not move. The sky above was the color of old bruises. Behind him, a single white throne sat empty.
Lucifer stood a few meters away, wings folded tight against his back, coat torn and stained with golden blood that refused to dry.
For a long time neither of them spoke.
Micheal's voice, when it finally came, was quieter than anyone who had ever feared him would have believed possible. "You felt it too."
Lucifer did not turn. "The white moon is no longer observing. It is participating."
Micheal's hands curled into fists. "Kevin is still a child."
"He stopped being a child the moment the Mythical Matrix chose him." Lucifer's tone was tired rather than cruel. "You know this."
Micheal took a step closer. The black water did not ripple under his feet. "I failed the last generation. I will not fail this one."
Lucifer finally looked at him. For the first time in centuries, something almost soft moved behind his eyes. "Then stop standing here mourning what has not yet been lost. Go to the boy. Or do not. But do not pretend your hesitation is mercy."
Micheal's jaw tightened. Golden light began to gather around his shoulders like a second set of wings.
Lucifer's voice dropped even lower. "Brother… if the Garden Behind the Fence opens fully while the White-Blue Heart Pillar is still contested, none of us will have the luxury of regret."
The two of them stood in silence again, the weight of old wars and older failures hanging between them like a third presence.
Then Micheal vanished in a column of pure light.
Lucifer remained on the shore a moment longer, staring at the motionless ocean, before he too disappeared.

**Egypt – Valley of the Forgotten Kings**
The desert wind howled across broken pillars and half-buried statues. The sun was a white blade in the sky. Derek landed first, boots cracking the ancient stone. Ferrum arrived a second later in a shower of metallic sparks, his body already shifting into its armored configuration.
Derek scanned the horizon. "Pharaoh Salah's tomb is supposed to be under the third dune from the broken sphinx. Intelligence said the seal broke three days ago."
Ferrum's voice came out layered, like multiple metal plates speaking at once. "Something else is already here. The sand is wrong."
They moved together, careful, weapons ready. The air grew heavier the closer they came to the third dune. Symbols that had been dead for millennia began to glow with faint green light under the sand.
A deep, resonant voice rolled across the valley, speaking in a language older than any living nation.
"Who disturbs the rest of the one who refused death?"
Derek raised his voice. "We need the knowledge of Pharaoh Salah. The White-Blue Heart Pillar is active. The Domains of Sin are open. The white moon has stopped watching and started hunting."
Silence.
Then the dune exploded outward.
A towering figure rose from the sand, wrapped in bandages that moved like living things, eyes burning with green fire. Golden armor covered a body that should have crumbled to dust long ago. In one hand he held a staff crowned with a scarab that pulsed with power.
Pharaoh Salah looked down at them.
"You are late," he said. "The war has already reached the old places."
Ferrum stepped forward, metal plates locking into place. "Then help us end it."
Salah's burning eyes narrowed. "Or watch you fail, as all before you have failed."
The sand began to rise around them like a living army.

**Lesotho Highlands – Edge of the Storm**
High in the mountains, where the wind never truly stopped, a young man in a long dark coat stood on a rocky outcrop. On his head sat a strange, spiky hat made of black metal and bone, the spikes shifting restlessly as if alive.
Musa closed his eyes and listened.
The hat whispered to him in a language only he understood. It spoke of distant battles, of blood being spilled in places that should have remained sealed, of a white moon that had begun to lean closer to the world.
Musa's voice was calm. "I know. I felt the Shattering fragments stir again."
The spikes on the hat lengthened, then curled inward like the legs of a waiting spider.
He opened his eyes. "Then we go. The Guardians will need every blade they can get… even the ones that bite both ways."
The hat pulsed once in agreement.
Musa stepped off the outcrop and the wind caught him, carrying him toward the distant chaos like a dark arrow.

Willowbrook High School – Third Floor Corridor
Lancelot Ito stepped into the chaos with the same bored expression he always wore in class. The new Japanese transfer student didn't even look particularly concerned. His black hair fell across one eye as he casually raised one hand. Water gathered from the broken fire sprinklers and the damp air itself, swirling into a sharp, pressurized whip that lashed out and cleanly severed the creature's arm. The limb dissolved into blue mist.
Lancelot's voice was flat, almost lazy. "Annoying."
A sharp voice cut through the noise from further down the hall.
"Out of the way, transfer!"
Ignis Lau, the Hong Kong student who had been at Willowbrook since the beginning of the semester, skidded into view. Flames already danced across both of his palms, heat warping the air around him. His usual confident smirk was gone, replaced by focused intensity. He and Lancelot locked eyes for half a second—an old, unspoken rivalry sparking even in the middle of a monster attack.
Ignis didn't wait. He launched a concentrated stream of fire that forced the regenerating creature to stagger back, the white mask blackening under the heat.
"I had it," Lancelot said, still sounding completely unimpressed.
"You were taking too long," Ignis shot back, already preparing another blast.
Further back, Ivan Petrov was pressed against a half-destroyed locker, eyes wide, breathing too fast. The tall Russian student looked genuinely terrified. His hands shook as he stared at the creature, then at Wyatt, then at the destruction around him.
"What… what is this?" Ivan's voice cracked. "This isn't real. This can't be real—"
He stumbled sideways when a floating desk crashed near his feet, flinching hard. No power. No confidence. Just a scared teenager trying not to get killed.
Jackson remained near the stairwell, quiet as always, eyes fixed on Wyatt with cold, clinical interest. No fear. No excitement. Just analysis. Black mist curled faintly around his shoes and vanished before anyone noticed.
Kevin noticed the new arrivals and felt a brief spike of complicated relief. More fighters. More variables.
The creature pulled itself free of the rubble, mask fully reformed, and screamed.
Willowbrook High School – Main Hall
The battle spilled downward in a storm of broken glass and screaming.
Kevin and the others crashed into the main hall as the creature pursued them. White-blue rampage energy flared around Kevin in unstable waves. Lancelot moved with the same nonchalant precision, water forming into spinning blades and sudden high-pressure bursts that kept the monster off-balance without any visible effort. He didn't shout. He didn't look excited. He simply cut and stepped and cut again, expression bored even when blood from a near-miss sprayed across his cheek.
Ignis fought like the opposite. Fire roared from his hands in aggressive, sweeping arcs, forcing the creature to give ground. Every time Lancelot's water extinguished one of his flames, Ignis would click his tongue in irritation and push harder.
"Stop putting out my fire, Ito!"
"Stop aiming so carelessly, Lau," Lancelot replied flatly, already forming another water spear.
Ivan stayed near the edge of the hall, back against a toppled vending machine, clearly trying to make himself small. His face was pale. Sweat ran down his temples. Every time the creature roared or Wyatt's distortion field made the floor tilt, Ivan flinched and looked ready to run.
"We need to get out of here," he said, voice shaking. "We need teachers, or police, or—something. This is insane!"
No one had time to answer him.
Jackson still hadn't joined the fight. He watched Wyatt from the shadows near the stairwell, head tilted slightly, as if studying a complicated equation. The black mist around his feet thickened for a moment before he forced it back down.
Wyatt—R. Dodger—tilted his head, smiling with someone else's mouth. The distortion field around him pulsed. Gravity flipped for a fraction of a second. Half a dozen people were thrown into the ceiling hard enough to crack bone.
Kevin's voice roared across the hall. "Jackson! Get the others out if you're not going to fight!"
Jackson didn't move. His eyes stayed locked on Wyatt. Quietly, almost to himself, he murmured, "You're leaking. Whatever's inside you is hungry… and it's not the only one."
Kevin slammed into the creature again, white-blue light exploding outward. Lancelot's water and Ignis's fire crossed paths in the same moment—steam erupted violently across the hall as opposing elements collided. For a second the two rivals were forced to look at each other through the haze.
Neither looked away first.
Ivan curled tighter against the vending machine, hands over his head, still looking every bit the terrified ordinary student caught in something far beyond him.
Outside the shattered windows, the white moon hung lower than it had any right to in the afternoon sky.
The real battle for Willowbrook had only just begun.

**Hell – Domain of Unforgiveness**
Peter Shotstock was running out of shells.
The shadows of his past failures kept rising faster than he could put them down. One of them now wore the face of the partner he had failed to save. Another looked like the child who had died waiting for extraction that never came.
Peter's voice was raw. "I already carry you. Every damn day. You don't get to kill me with it."
He fired the last shell, then reversed the shotgun and used it as a club, smashing through the next wave with pure, stubborn fury.
The deep voice of the Domain laughed. "You will break here, mortal. All of you will."
Peter spat blood and kept swinging.

**Realm of Mysteria**
Nathan's latest illusion shattered under Vespera's void.
The Six Rings flared dangerously bright. Selene screamed as feedback tore through the stabilizing array. Grug was down on one knee. Eddie's gadgets sparked uselessly. The Labyrinth Lord was forced to collapse an entire section of crystal forest just to slow the advance.
Nathan's voice was barely human. "We hold the rings. Even if it kills us."
Vespera's laughter rolled through the breaking realm like a funeral bell.
---
**Willowbrook High School – Center of the Storm**
Kevin stood bleeding in the middle of the ruined hall, white-blue light raging around him. Lancelot's wooden sword was cracked but still sharp. Ivan's gauntlets glowed white-hot. Jackson's black mist had begun to spread across the floor like living ink.
Wyatt—R. Dodger—smiled with someone else's mouth.
"You gathered more pieces," the voice said. "Good. It will make the harvest richer."
Outside the shattered windows, the white moon hung lower than it had any right to in the afternoon sky.
Somewhere far away, Micheal's light streaked across the realms.
Somewhere in the desert, Pharaoh Salah's staff began to burn with green fire.
Somewhere in the mountains, Musa and his living hat flew toward the war.
And in the quiet space behind Jackson's eyes, the Soul Eater whispered:
*Soon.*
The real battle for Willowbrook had only just begun.
**To Be Continued…**
