Chapter 1 - Love in fine print

Chapter one : The Clause

Jane Williams had always believed love should be simple, uncomplicated, honest and free given. But nothing about her life is simple anymore.

The hospital bills lay scattered across her small dinning table, each one heavier than the last. her father's condition was worsening and time was slipping through her fingers like sand.

Then came the offer.

"You don't have to love me", Jayden Cole said ,his voice calm almost detached.

"You just have to marry me."

Jane stared at him across the polished table in his office.

Everything about him screamed control, his tailored suit, his measured tone, the way his dark eyes revealed nothing.

"And in return?" She asked, her voice barely steady.

"I'll takecare of your father's treatment.

Every bill.no limits.

Silence stretched between them.

"And what's the catch?" She pressed.

Jayden slid a document towards her.

"A Contract," he said." Two years A public marriage, you live in my house, attend events, play the part of a devoted wife. In private,we keep our distance. No emotional expectations.

Jane's fingers trembled as she flipped through the pages.

Clause after Clause

Rules, Boundaries,penalties.

And then one line caught her breath.

"No falling in love."

She let out a quiet, bitter laugh.

"Funny," she murmured."you think that's something you can control?"

Jayden gaze hardened.

"I know it is."

Jane looked down at the contract again then back at the man offering her a lifeline wrapped in chains.

"For my father", she whispered

And she signed.

Chapter Two: The Wedding

The wedding was Everything Jane had once dreamed of except none of it felt real.

The flowers were perfect,The venue was breathtaking,The guests were Influential and elegant.

And the groom ?

A stranger.

Jayden slipped the ring onto her finger with practiced ease, his expression unreadable when it was time to kiss,he leaned in just enough to make it believable.

To everyone else,it was romance

To Jane ,it was a performance

"You did well," Jayden murmured as applause filled the room.

She forced a smile.

"So did you...husband."

The word tasted unfamiliar.

That night, she stood in the massive bedroom that now belonged to her, staring at the space between them as Jayden spoke.

"You'll stay here," he said, gesturing to the room. I'll use the one across the hall."

"Good", she replied quickly.

He paused.

"You don't seem disappointed."

Jane met his gaze.

"Was i supposed to be ?"

Something flickered in his eyes, something she couldn't name.

"No," he said quietly, you're exactly as I expected".

And for some reason,that stung.

Chapter Three: The Arrangement

Days turned into weeks.

Jane learned the rhythm of her new life.

The carefully constructed lies, the staged affection, the way Jayden's hand would rest on her waist in public but never linger in private.

He was distant ,controlled,untouchable.

But he was also... Kind in ways he didn't show openly.

He made sure her father received the best care.

He noticed when she skipped meals.

He listened even when he pretended not to.

One evening,as they returned from a gala,Jane finally broke.

"Why me?" She asked suddenly.

Jayden lossened his tie, avoiding her gaze.

"You fit the profile."

"That's not an answer."

He sighed.

"I needed someone who wouldn't fall in love with me."

Jane frowned

"And you think I won't?"

His eyes met hers than sharp searching.

"I think you're too smart to make that mistake."

Her chest Tightened.

"Maybe you're the one who's afraid",

She shot back.

The room fell silent.

Jayden stepped close,his presence overwhelming.

You don't know anything about me,

"Jane."

"Then tell me "

For a moment she thought he would

But then he stepped back.

"Stick to the Contract."

Chapter Four:Cracks in the fine print

It started with small things.

A lingering glance.

A hand held a second too long.

A moment where slience felt into intimate.

Jane began to see the cracks in jayden carefully built walls.

And he began to see her.

Not just the woman who signed a contract but the one who laughed too loudly when she forgot herself, who cried quietly when she thought no one was watching .

One night a storm raged outside.

The lights went out.

And for the first time Jane found herself in jayden's room.

"I don't like thunderstorms," she admitted softly.

He hesitated...then move closer.

"You can stay",he said.

They sat in silence as rain battered the windows.

And when lightening flashed, she reached for him without thinking.

He didn't pull away.

That was the moment everything changed.

Chapter five: The Forbidden

"Don't" Jayden whispered one night as Jane stood too close, her breath uneven.

"Don't what?" She asked

"Look at me like that."

Her heart pounded.

"Like I'm more than a contract".

Silence.

Then quietly.

"What if you are?"

That was all it took.

The line blurred.

The rules broke.

And for the first time, their marriage felt real.

But love,as beautiful as it was .... Came with consequences.

Chapter six :The Secret

Jane Found the truth by accident.

A file hidden locked away.

Jayden's past wasn't just complicated it was dangerous.

His marriage wasn't just for convenience it was protection.

Enemies,Betrayal A life she was never meant to be part of.

When she confornted him,his reaction shattered her.

"You weren't supposed to find out",he said.

"I'm your wife!"

"You're part of a contract",he snapped.

"Don't confuse the two."

Her heart broke in that moment.

"So everything....all of it...was fake?

Jayden didn't answer.

And that was answer enough.

Chapter seven: Beyond the contract

Jane left

Not because she stopped loving him but because she finally understood the fine print.

Love wasn't something you could negotiate.

Months passed.

And then one day,Jayden showed up at her door.

No suit no control no distance.

Just a man who looked like he had lost everything.

"I broke every rule," he said.

Jane's breath caught.

"I fell in love with you."

Tears filled her eyes.

"You said that wasn't all."

He stepped closer.

"Then let's rewrite the contract".

Silence.

Then ,slowly,she smiled.

"No more", he promised

And this time, when she took his hand it wasn't part of a deal

It was Love ,raw, real and finally free.
