After hearing Jacob's apology, Damon slowly looked up from his laptop, clear surprise flashing across his face for a brief second.
Jacob stood in front of him with trembling hands. His breathing was uneven, and his eyes were already turning red.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't...I shouldn't—"
The words suddenly got stuck in his throat.
The pain of being ignored by Damon completely overwhelmed him.
Punishments were something Jacob had already gotten used to over the years. Harsh words, cold treatment, even Damon's terrifying temper—he endured all of it. But being ignored by him?
That was entirely different.
It felt worse.
And finally, after desperately trying to hold everything in ever since Damon walked past him downstairs, tears slowly streamed down Jacob's face.
He immediately lowered his head, not wanting Damon to see him crying.
The whole room became silent.
Damon stared at him quietly for a few long seconds before finally shutting his laptop with a soft click.
