"Would that be okay with you?"
After several minutes of silence, Jacob finally found the courage to ask the question.
Damon lifted his eyes toward him. He understood immediately what Jacob meant. But instead of answering, Damon simply grabbed the glass of water beside him and took a slow drink while silently staring at Jacob over the rim, like he was studying him.
Jacob's annoyance deepened because of the silence be gives. "If it's not okay with you," he muttered coldly while lowering his eyes back to his food, "then why even mention it?"
The heavy silence returned once more.
Jacob continued eating without even sparing Damon another glance, while Damon quietly exhaled through his nose as if forcing himself to remain calm.
The tension between them was suffocating.
Then after a few seconds of silence, there was a knock on the door.
Knock. Knock.
The sound interrupted the silence inside the office.
Damon immediately stood up and walked toward the door.
