Chapter 1 - THE ARRIVAL

The forest was silent, but not empty. Fog curled around the trees like fingers, brushing against the carriage wheels and whispering secrets only the night could understand. Aurora gripped the edge of the seat, knuckles white. Her heart hammered, a wild drum echoing through her chest. Something felt… wrong. She could feel eyes on her, though the trees were still and empty.

Through the mist, the castle appeared. Massive. Ancient. Its towers clawed at the sky like skeletal fingers. Moonlight glinted off jagged stones, casting shadows that moved oddly, almost alive — bloodhounds watching in the dark. The air was thick, cold, heavy as if the castle itself was breathing around her.

She stepped onto the damp cobblestones, fog curling around her boots. No guards. No welcome. Only silence. And a sense of being watched. Her instincts screamed: run. But curiosity, and something darker — the pull of destiny — rooted her in place.

A low, creaking groan echoed through the gate as the massive doors slowly opened. Pale light spilled into the courtyard, stretching shadows like reaching claws. Aurora's pulse quickened. She could feel the weight of centuries pressing down on her, pressing in.

From the hallway, a figure emerged, tall, calm, deliberate. Lucius. He moved like a shadow made of flesh, his eyes sharp, measuring, dangerous.

Lucius: " You're late,"

he said, his voice smooth and deliberate.

Aurora: " I… I'm sorry,"

Aurora stammered, her voice trembling.

Aurora: "I didn't mean to—"

Lucius: " Save your apologies,"

Lucius interrupted, stepping closer.

Lucius: "This place doesn't care for them."

His gaze swept over her, cool and penetrating.

Lucius: "Do you understand that?"

Aurora: "I… I.. I think so..."

From a high window, a faint movement caught her eye. A girl, pale, almost translucent, floated silently in the moonlight. Seraphina. Her eyes glowed faintly, unreadable.

Seraphina: "You're new…"

she whispered, a sound barely there, like wind brushing over dry leaves.

Aurora: "Who… who are you?"

straining to make sense of the apparition.

Seraphina: "A warning,"

her voice soft yet chilling.

Seraphina: "Do not think this Castle will forgive ignorance."

Lucius stepped between them.

Lucius: "Ignore her if you wish ,"

his tone amused, but sharp.

Lucius: "But she is as mucha part of this place as i am. And this Castle… hunts."

Aurora shivered.

Aurora: "Hunts? You mean… people?"

Lucius: "Not always,"

a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

Lucius: "Sometimes shadows. Sometimes memories. Sometimes— ."

A gust of wind blew through the courtyard, stirring the fog into swirling ribbons. Aurora felt it wrap around her legs like a living thing.

Aurora: "I don't understand… why me?"

voice barely audible.

Lucius: "Why anyone?"

Lucius murmured.

Lucius: "The castle chooses, or it simply notices. You are here now. Thats all that matters."

Aurora looked at the ancient stone towers, their windows dark, yet somehow alive. She could feel movement in the shadows — small, subtle, yet deliberate. She swallowed again.

Aurora: "And… the bloodhounds?"

Lucius: "They watch,"

Lucius said, almost casually.

Lucius: "Always. Patient. Waiting. You will learn to move without being seen, or they will make sure you'll do."

Seraphina appeared at the base of the stairs, her pale form gliding toward Aurora.

Seraphina: "Don't you want to survive?"

she asked softly. Her eyes glimmered with a strange light.

Seraphina: "Then listen. Watch. And never trust the silence. Not even for a moment."

Aurora's chest tightened.

Aurora: "I will try… ."

Lucius nodded, satisfied.

Lucius: "Good. You will need more than luck here."

Aurora stepped forward, fog curling around her boots, and felt the weight of unseen eyes pressing in from every corner. Every shadow was a predator. Every whisper a warning. Every footstep a challenge.

The doors slammed shut behind her, the sound echoing like the snapping of jaws. Aurora's pulse raced. She was inside. There was no turning back.

And the hunt had truly begun.
