Chapter 1 - The Gided Cage

Alexander Kane sat in his penthouse

office, the city lights stretching endlessly beneath him like a field of glittering stars. From up here, the world seemed small, insignificant, and yet, somehow, he felt more trapped than ever. The towering glass walls of his office reflected a man in a tailored black suit, perfectly groomed, yet hollow-eyed.

He swirled the whiskey in his glass, listening to the faint hum of the city below. Deals were being made, fortunes being shifted, lives being transformed—but not his. He had everything the world said he should want: wealth, influence, power. Yet tonight, like every night, the emptiness gnawed at him, sharper than any debt or business failure ever could.

A soft chime sounded from his phone, signaling another congratulatory message from an acquaintance, praising him for a recent acquisition. Alexander didn't bother reading it. Words meant nothing anymore. People meant nothing. The only presence he truly craved was… gone.

He leaned back, staring at the skyline. In that moment, he realized the truth he had been avoiding: money could buy anything except the one thing he truly needed—connection, meaning, and perhaps, love. The irony of being the richest man in the city while feeling the poorest in his heart wasn't lost on him.

Alexander drained his glass, set it on the marble desk, and whispered to the empty room, "Is this all there is?"

Outside, the city carried on, oblivious to the billionaire who had everything—and nothing.
