Chapter 108 - Chapter 110. Mr. Edward

Chapter 110. Mr. Edward

The dirty male bartender, smelling strongly of sheep, seemed to be in a very bad mood.

When he saw Lynn walk in, he snorted angrily.

"Hey kid, isn't it not a weekend? Sneaking out of Hogwarts like this could get you expelled."

Lynn ignored his tone and instead looked around the filthy bar with visible disgust.

The windows were covered in thick grime, barely letting in the dim glow of the streetlights outside. The rough wooden tables were lit with short candle stubs. At first glance, the floor looked like packed dirt—but when he stepped on it, he realized it was stone buried under centuries of filth.

"Professor Dumbledore wouldn't be as picky as you," Lynn said casually while scanning the room. "Have you ever actually cleaned this place?"

The bar had only a few customers, all wearing black robes and hoods, clearly hiding their identities—and clearly not the kind of people you'd trust.

At that moment, one of them waved at Lynn.

The bartender—Aberforth—was about to retort, but Lynn cut him off.

"I'm meeting someone. That table. And a butterbeer."

He sat down opposite the hooded figure.

Under the hood was a pale, thin, sickly-looking middle-aged man—like someone who could collapse at any moment.

"Professor Fox?" Lynn asked tentatively.

The man smiled. His face distorted and shifted into Fox's original appearance for a moment—then quickly returned.

"I'm wanted by multiple magical governments now. I can't use my real identity anymore. Call me Jared Edward. Mr. Edward is fine."

Lynn's butterbeer arrived, but he didn't touch it—the cup looked too filthy.

He frowned.

"How did you end up being wanted, Professor… Mr. Edward?"

Fox casually drank from his own mug, completely unconcerned with hygiene, and exhaled in satisfaction.

"It's a long story. Those Ministry Aurors are far too rigid. I used magic disguised as street magic for performances, and they accused me of breaking the Statute of Secrecy."

"I argued with them, but they were all stubborn idiots who couldn't tell magic from tricks. They wanted to drag me to wizard court. Naturally, I didn't cooperate."

"So I traveled across Europe. Got bored. Went to Asia instead."

"In places like Turkey, the Aurors are much more flexible. I paid 50 Galleons, and they pretended not to see anything."

Lynn was speechless.

He really didn't expect that pretending magic was stage illusion could be illegal.

It was like being arrested for selling real medicine as fake medicine.

Fox became excited again.

"You don't know how fun being a magician is. Once, a Muggle magician saw me perform and mocked me for outdated tricks. So I did it again right in front of him."

"He nearly lost his mind. After that, he begged me to take him as a student."

Lynn listened with great interest.

They continued chatting about Turkish food, Cappadocia lamb dishes, and even bathhouses, which Fox praised as "absolute craftsmanship-level experience."

Nearly an hour passed before they finally got to the real topic.

"I didn't expect you to be so interested in that spell I casually created," Fox said, finally pushing away the idea of another drink.

Lynn slid his untouched butterbeer over to him.

"I'm curious because it's unusual. Aside from your spell, the wizarding world barely has any magic targeting spirits or ghosts."

Fox chuckled.

"Because most people aren't crazy enough to try torturing a ghost just to extract information about his son."

He didn't dwell on it.

"But your ideas are interesting too. Especially your modification—turning it into a more instant, transfiguration-like spell. That improves precision and usability a lot."

"And your letter—it surprised me. Your way of thinking is unusual. I never considered that a spell's power could be enhanced in that way."

Lynn looked at him expectantly.

"So, Mr. Edward… do you think my idea is practical?"

Fox became serious.

"That's exactly why I rushed back using Apparition."

"In theory—it works."

"But there is a requirement."

"What requirement?"

"The core force you mentioned in your letter… must be strong enough."
