He loosened his cravat and looked through the window as houses disappeared behind him. The streets of London passed beyond the window, crowded despite the hour as carriages rolled along the slick roads.
He barely noticed any of it. The carriage turned onto another street.
Anthony watched the buildings change outside the window. His gaze remained fixed upon it, not observant but not entirely ignorant at the same time.
Just when everything seemed alright, something caught his attention.
He frowned.
It looked like… a figure walking alone in the rain. For a moment, he thought he had imagined it.
The road ahead was dimly lit, and the rain had left everything glistening beneath the carriage lamps. The figure moved farther along the roadside, and from her petite structure, he could tell it was a woman.
Anthony sat forward. There was something familiar about the way she walked.
He looked again. No, he thought. It could not be. "Slow down."
